As one of the early Nier 1 adopters/advertisers, I feel like it's my duty to continue to inform the public about this series.

Luckily I can recommend Nier Automata without any caveats. The gameplay is varied and very fun, the writing is amazing and legitimately deep, and the music is on par with the original which is more or less the best game OST ever.

The game has succeeded beyond my wildest expectations but it still deserves more. Once you're done working through your Persona/Zelda fix, check this shit out. It's a truly special experience.

Automata makes the gameplay WAY better and honestly has a better story than Nier even though the original has a special place in my heart. I can recommend it even if you didn't like the first.

I finished Route A on the eve of Persona 5. Felt like it was as good of a stopping point as I could possibly ask for. Already liking the game quite a bit but knowing Yoko Taro I've yet to see 90% of what makes the game really good. Can't wait to get back to it, but P5 is legit impossible to tear away from so it's going to be a little longer. >_>

I was actually a little disappointed with the game after Route A. That changed oh so quickly.

I feel you on P5 though. I made sure to finish Nier before starting P5 because I knew that game was going to be very addicting.

You'll miss some references but the main story is completely seperate. Push comes to shove you can watch Nier's cutscenes on youtube and be fine, but people who never played Nier 1 don't seem to be lost from what I can tell.

You dudes ditching the game after Ending A make me sad. Go back to it eventually !

I love Nier 1 but Nier 2 is just on a different level of quality. It is probably the only fully realized Yoko Taro game, due to the sheer one a kind ability of Platinum, and it makes the entire experience just so much better than the sum of its parts.

The music isn't on par, it's straight up better. I love Nier 1 a lot but other than nostalgia, Nier 2 destroys it in every category. And honestly I just rewatched the ending of 2 on youtube and the nostalgia is just as strong, for a game I finished 3 weeks ago, as for a game I finished 5 years ago. It's insane.

Yes but Automata is very much a sequel to the original Nier. It builds off the foundation that Nier 1 ended with, so it makes the whole story and such easier to understand. You can still understand Automata by itself, it just might take more work.

First Zelda, then Persona 5... and I'm about to finish it but Trails 3 in 3 days.

I will get to Nier Automata though. Still absolutely ridiculous that a game I was off-the-charts hyped for on that initial reveal is something I've had to put off for maybe 2 months by the time it's all said and done.
