I would not say an age... more like a few years after you graduate college. By that time you should have a job and money to afford a place of your own.

How does this apply to working people with good paying jobs and still live with their parents? Seems like most people don't realize their parents home is an appreciating asset.

Even though i feel ashamed of living with my parents, i can't really think a reason why it should be pathetic . i mean if you are indepedent, pay for living, don't feel like having a relationship etc.

Sure, i could move to my own place at some rathole apartment, with loud drunken asshole neighbors and listen their farts through paper thin walls, pay rent to some asshole who don't give shit about living conditions of his buildings, and pay rent to for him while i have far less money for myself and need to live on really tight budget. OR i could pay for my parents and help them financially and help them with their chores, while i don't need to deal with any of the bullshit i would if i lived in my own place.

After living in Asia for a few years, I've seen that it's the exact opposite here than in the west when it comes to leaving home.

In the west we are expected to be out on our own by the time you finish college or working (though it's becoming more accepted to stay longer because of the economy).

But in Asia, a LOT of people end up living with their parents their whole lives, including when they get married and have children. Almost everyone here I knw lives with a parent, grandparent or some other relative . My wife's aunt and uncle lives with us. It's great though, they are live-in nanny's basically so my wife and I can pretty much go anywhere we want whenever we want without having to worry about finding someone to watch our daughter. Plus they pay the utilities (my wife and I bought the house, they offered to pay all the utilities). A French friend of mine lives with his wife's mother. So it's quite normal to see here.
