That's actually worse in terms of deception. Because the first time someone does a backsearch on the pics you're posting, and they notice that the personal info you're giving out doesn't match what's on "your" site, you're kind of boned.

If you use the real name of the person whose pictures you're using, and any of the amateur sleuths track them back to the Facebook page, then it adds an extra layer of verisimilitude. Sure, it might fall apart if they start sending messages to the real person or otherwise try to communicate with them, but if you're lucky that person will just ignore them and you can always use the excuse that you don't like having your Internet life and real life mixing, so you avoid adding people from GameFAQs to your Facebook account. It's a gamble, but you're pretty much gambling whenever you're using someone else's pictures in this day and age anyway.

The REAL professional way to get away with it is to craft your persona in the first place where you actually minimize the fact that you're "female" (just casual references and implications in what you write leading others to "deduce" that you're female, and not blatantly going "LOOK AT ME I'M A GIRL ON THE INTERNET!" in every damned post), and can resort to a bit of "I'm not going to show you pictures or tell you my real name because there are so many creeps on the Internet I don't want them harassing me" (something which is an easy argument to justify, considering we've got a least a few of those sorts of creeps on PotD alone). Then throw in a bit of "I don't care if you believe I'm a girl or not, I'm not obligated to prove anything to you", and you sort of sow the seeds of believably. This works especially well if you give yourself a female-sounding screen name that isn't ridiculously blatant, and then avoid ever calling attention to it yourself. And if someone comes at you with the accusation that you're just pretending to be a girl, brush it off with mild disdain and then ignore them, implying you have nothing to prove. The less desperate you seem to PROVE that you're female, the more people are likely to actually believe you ARE female.

If you absolutely want/need to have pictures to "prove" yourself (best used in a sort of one-off, "Okay, I'll post pics just this once, so stop bothering me" or casual "Hey, I really love my pet, look at this cute picture of me hugging him that 'accidentally' shows me as well completely unintentionally"), the best possible thing you can do is find a female you know in real life (preferably one with minimal online presence, if you can find someone like that), then have them take at least a few fake pics for you. The advantage there being that no one will EVER be able to find those pics anywhere else on the Internet (unless you eventually set up your own fake Facebook/Twitter/etc account using them), and because it gives you the flexibility to do things like hold up a sign saying "Hey, PotD!" or whatever else people online foolishly tend to accept as confirmation of actual identity.

It's actually incredibly easy to pass yourself off as female if you're subtle about it. Especially since most ACTUAL females tend to be subtle about it to avoid the inevitable flirting and harassment that always goes along with it in sites/hobbies/online cultures/etc where the population is about 95% male.

To be honest, it was just as lame and stupid then, and none of the actual worthwhile posters really cared all that much.

It wasn't even a new thing, because the witch hunt to out the male posters pretending to be female goes all the way back to the very early days of the site. Before chelle there was Naomi Diamond, before "her" there were a few others, and there was always the occasional poster who swore Ail was secretly male and a deliberate troll, as opposed to the legitimately insane woman she actually was.

Nudo even went "undercover" as a female poster for a while to see if anyone on the board would realize it (no one ever did) as a bit of amateur psychological experimentation.

I'm not really sure what there is to miss about those, he didn't actually pay attention to people here and most of them were just totally wrong. Nudo is one of those posters I never actively hated or anything but I really don't understand why he's idolized either.

Around the time I received gamma knife surgery a few years back, he helped me learn how to play D&D 3.5e. I suppose your hobbies and interests just never crossed paths. :/
