That's a valid question that won't matter after the season finale where Barry goes back in time to stop Barry, who has gone back in time to stop Barry, who has gone back in time to stop his mother's death despite the pleas of yet another Barry, who has gone back in time.

If I had to guess...

He went back to fuck himself because he was fucked, and there was literally nothing he could do about it. This all happened to him, and he felt that no matter what, he was destined to kill Iris in some way. And if he just chose not to, the timeline would just get even more fucked. And, maybe, getting stuck in the Speed Force gave him a better perspective on timelines and how much he kept screwing things up and decided the only way to stop the timeline from continually being fucked with was to stop himself by fulfilling the loop to kill Iris.

That said, it still should have been Eddie.

Alright, that episode was absolutely terrible and served no point whatsoever.

It just was a reason to completely sweep away all of the bullshit with Helix and make sure Felicity has no actual consequences from being a part of them and having Oliver just go "Aw, you were right. I should've trusted you! Get back on the team now, even though you blatantly coerced against us to free a terrible, awful cyber terrorist!"

Like holy shit. They had a good chance to actually throw some actual character development and strife between these two and do anything with Felicity to make her terrible fucking decisions have a consequence and instead it's just brushed away!

What the fuck!? What the actual fuck!? This character is actually the worst!
