Were you a picky eater as a kid?

I'm reading an article, https://goo.gl/o54xf6, about Obama's health initiative being dismantled and I can't help but feel the fault lies with the kids and not the program itself. I am sure the program wasn't perfect but I feel some kids are just too picky. Even among my Scouts I see that sometimes.

As a kid I ate everything I was given mostly because I was raised to never waste food. My parents worked minimum wage jobs so my sister and I better damn well eat whatever we were given. Going to McDonalds was considered a treat. Back in high school a friend of mine would always throw the crust from his sandwich and even now it still kinda bothers me when I see people do that.

Regardless of your reasons, were you a picky eater as a kid?

Comments are appreciated,

Thank you

I was poor growing up so what we had to eat I ate. I was kind of picky and would trade my fruit for my siblings vegetables. I still don't like fruit that much but I love vegetables.

I was somewhat picky

As an adult I eat everything. I'm not fond of olives, but I eat them anyways.

Nah, as long as you didn't feed me beets, I'd eat anything.

Even today I still question why beets exist.

Thinking back a bit, I actually did not like raw cilantro. I'll eat em but would prefer em not on my dish. I think the smell of raw ones were just too strong for me.

Funny, I actually enjoy beets in my salads. What do you not like about em?

Nah I'm easy to please. The only thing I really don't like are plain tomatoes and those giant olives.

You just reminded me of my hatred for olives. I imagine it takes like old lady butthole. So gross.

When I was like 2-3 I refused to eat anything green. That changed pretty quickly and broccoli soon became my favorite vegetable (still is).

To this day I don't like olives which my parents thought was weird, but it just means I have to make sure that I don't get any olives on my Mexican or Greek food.

Everything! The smell (reason why I can barely hold them down even if I force myself to eat them), the blood-red look, the texture. It took a while to get over my hatred for brussel sprouts if I drown it in cheese, but not so with beets because they're awful on everything.

When I was a kid I didn't like things that tasted "weird" like olives, Chinese mushrooms and Dr. Pepper.

Now I love all of them and I've been very tolerant of many foods since then, though there's some I would never want to try.

Somewhat, and I still am. But I still ate what was prepared for the rest of the family in some form, even if I had to pick out ingredients I didn't like. The only times something "special" was cooked for me were the times my mom would make a second smaller onionless meatloaf for me, and that was only about half the meatloaf nights at best.

I'm allergic to soy, tomatoes, and egg whites (to varying degrees), so I always had to be picky. It was convenient though, as it got me out of eating lots of nasty-looking stuff I would've otherwise lacked an excuse to avoid.

I'm still a picky eater. I have tried to learn to eat stuff like broccoli and carrots, but I can't. Carrots will make me vomit and broccoli and other leafy greens just make me gag.

There are things I won't eat. But I am by no means what any reasonable person would consider a picky eater.
