I've been seeing it's popularity go way up lately. Maybe BotW is bringing a lot of old Zelda fans back to the series, but there are definitely more people calling it their favorite than there were a couple years ago. I haven't played ALttP since 2011 in my pre-Skyward Sword marathon, and I ranked it as 3rd or 4th worst. That was a long time ago, should I play through it again?

It's a slight bit overrated by today's standard, and it is still way better than OoT, but yeah great game.

I don't really see the point of playing it over something like ALBW though

Yeah but cough Ganon is overrated. I liked him in BotW precisely because it was barely Ganon but him that got distorted into some crazy evil spirit beast thing

Because exploration in OOT vs ALttP is a massive difference. Just based on feels alone, ALttP has significantly much more to do in between dungeons and is just simply more fun. There are also just more to fight along the way. ALttP has better dungeons. More puzzles, more creative ones at that, and cooler structures, whereas it's clear it takes longer to make OoT dungeons, so you get either a lot of boring ones or just boring room based puzzles. OoT dungeons are really weak, which the even duller overworld doesn't help.

OoT is just not a good game. I actually think for its time it was alright, but by today's standards, it just sucks

Maybe the blue pig version.

Edit: As for people saying OoT sucks now...eh...I can definitely agree that it was revolutionary for its time, and it's still enjoyable to play, but there's plenty other Zelda games that are better than it.

I don't think he's underutilized. Also, I feel like literally every Zelda big boss has more characterizations than this guy

I strongly disagree. AlttP has more secrets hidden, but I enjoy exploring in OoT because of all the people and cultures you interact with. I feel the dungeons are way better. ALttP barely even has puzzles, the dungeons are mazes more than places for puzzles. IMO the game has aged great, I played it last year and loved it still. When you factor in Mirrored Master Quest, it's truly fantastic. My 3 heart run of that was one of my top Zelda experiences ever.

I feel ALBW's better in almost every way. The difficulty curve being the only notable exception.

And I love ALBW's use of Ganon. Instead of hijacking the plot, he's hijacked by the plot. And Yuga is fucking amazing.

The best possible Zelda game, in my mind, strikes a perfect balance between freedom and progression. That's extraordinarily difficult to do, but ALttP comes closer than perhaps any other game in the series.

OoT actually does it best, bar none. You can complete the dungeons, and more importantly the story leading up to the dungeons, in a wide variety of orders. The difficulty curve is still there, and you still feel yourself getting stronger. You can even see Link getting stronger with the outfit changes.

Wtf? No it's not.

You can go through the forest and learn the Minuet of the Forest, get the Goron Tunic, and complete Ice Cavern in any order all before getting the hookshot. If you get the hookshot, you can get into any of the first three temples or beat Gerudo Valley in any order, mix and matching however you please with the previous activities. You can do the bottom of the well after you beat the forest temple, before or after Ice Cavern, Fire Temple, Water temple, or Gerudo Valley. You can do the Spirit Temple any time after you get the long shot, and people debate to this day whether the Spirit or Shadow temple is supposed to be first. There are a shit ton of combinations of ways to do the adult portion of OoT.
