My girlfriend has a severe allergy to any dyes or coloring in food and it's kinda ridiculous how limited our options get because of it. I don't mind going places that only she can go but it's stupid that we have to limit ourselves to begin with

I know what you mean, actually. It's actually kind of disturbing when so many meat products actually have artificial coloring in them to make them look more like meat. I mean, what color would they be otherwise? Grey or something?

I mean, what color would they be otherwise? Grey or something? Yes. A common "colorant" is carbon monoxide: it reddens the hell out of meat, and keeps it red longer. https://www.meatinstitute.org/index.php?ht=a/GetDocumentAction/i/60863 The simple truth is, "ugly" food doesn't sell. This effect was exploited heavily by the dairy industry, when it successfully banned colored margarine, or mandated that margarine be dyed in off-putting colors, for a long time. http://theplate.nationalgeographic.com/2014/08/13/the-butter-wars-when-margarine-was-pink/ ...
