When I first learned cursive I tried to sign my name properly. I'd see adults' signatures and just think how they don't even look like anything and wonder how somebody could write like that.

After years of signing stuff, I can see how somebody would write like that. It's easy to want to get quicker with it, and it just gradually gets less and less detailed until eventually it becomes generic squiggles. I remember when it got to the point where you could distinguish just the first letter of my first and last name. But I just signed something and realized now only the first letter of my first name is distinguishable... and even then, it sort of looks more like an N than an M.

My signature takes 3 pen strokes and you can make out one letter

You can just make a straight line if you want to, no one will ever call you out on it. Signatures are stupid.

I tried making mine more devolved to fit in with the cool kids

In hindsight it's dumb because it's annoying to collect signatures for work when you can't read someone's name whatsoever

Even at 36 I'm young enough to have gotten so accustomed to doing business online, that having to deal with real-world documents feels physically weird to me. Signing my name is actually something I struggle to do because I do it so infrequently.

I sign my entire name and it's legible.

I used to make mine as legible as possible but then I realized it doesn't really matter so now it's legible at the beginning and then just turns into a scribble by the end.

Yeah but I wouldn't want to make it something that could easily be forged

See, I always think that's actually kind of cool. I probably would do that if I had a t in my name. Sadly, I don't even have an i or a j that I could use to make a funky dot

If I use my debit card it's just a line, or I write batman.

If it's something professional my first name is legible but I get bored after the first few letters of my last and it turns into scribbles.

It looks like random lines. I don't think anyone could make out one letter.

Eh, not that amazing. I certainly could if I wanted to, but there's no point. That is, I mean I actually know what each of the letters in my name is supposed to look like, despite not writing them out for years. There are some lowercase letters that I don't know what they look like, such as q and x, and far more uppercase ones.

Just a bunch of scribbles with a D in the middle and an X at the end.

Just like my handwriting my signature is terrible. It's even worse when I have to sign this tablet like device every fortnight to verify myself as the machine doesn't seem to recognise it until several tries later.

my name is in manuscript and is incredibly sloppy and isn't consistent from one to the other

My father and grandfather have excellent signatures, but they both have said they spent hours practicing to perfect it, but they also are in business. My signature is illegible, and I have actually been asked to show my license whenever I sign something because no one believes that is my actually signature.

Only my first and last initials are legible.

It's illegible, but not devolved so much as it was never my name to begin with. I just made up something quick to write. I don't think I've ever signed my actual name.

My first name and the first letter of my last name are mostly legible, than I trail off intentionally.
