these are the people who feel betrayed and manipulated by The Big Two(Though More Likely Marvel These Days)

and quit comic books entirely because of it even though there are other publishers including the third biggest publisher image comics(AKA The Creator-Owned Kingdom)which is hailed as the future of comics by many in the industry and comic book readers due to the freedom it offers creative teams

the average public isn't very aware of what comics are like. most people don't ever bother to read them. That's why so many people still believe the lies about Aquaman for example

Honestly a lot of indie comics that are any good tend to go out of business or get bought up by bigger companies (Mirage, CrossGen, etc.)

I never really liked Image Comics, Dark Horse usually puts something decent out once in a while, Dynamite has some good stuff but hardly get sold in any comic stores, and IDW really only creates comics to feed off of nostalgia from other geek culture stuff. Those are the only current "indie" comics I have any interest in and I can't say that I really care enough about anything they put out to buy them every month(except IDW's TMNT, but that is only because they have Kevin Eastman making sure they don't screw it up).

I'm currently reading Spawn and it's surrounding tie ins. :F. I know it's considered the "shit" tier of Image Comics, but for the most part I don't get around to them.

I have been reading manga lately. Specifically Attack on Titan.

it's funny how Image only has like two superhero books(Savage Dragon And Spawn)with Invincible concluding in the near future

superheroes just work so well for comic books and everything else just feels awkward....someone mentioned to me that despite how many of image's books could be considered good

if you wanted something zombie related You'd watch A TV Show Or Movie comic books just feel like they aren't well suited to anything outside the superhero spectrum especially with the once a month format as it is

plus since Image is 100% controlled by the creators and there's no editors keeping things in check you can end up with some pretty chaotic and raunchy books

and yet somehow the smalller publishers continue to exist and Image Comics continues to exist when unlike marvel/dc they don't really have a crap ton of merchandise to keep them afloat

The books are funded directly through the creative team's pockets too so it's not like they aren't already taking a big risk as it is just creating the books but it's their money making all of it possible

So they have been shrinking, and you admit that.
So it's not crazy that people don't know about smaller comic publishers.

isn't the walking dead an extremely popular tv show? and i didn't admit anything i just stated that despite claims of the comic book industry dying all these smaller publishers continue to exist with no problems and the third biggest publisher image exists without much in the way of promotional deals and merchandise keeping it afloat....anyone who works at image like i said has to pay for their success

regardless of the markets size paying for your work to just see the light of day and continue seeing it published isn't easy

hard to say people don't know about image after Spawn And The Walking Dead

For the average person, Marvel and DC are the only comic characters they know, and even then, it's the big name ones. Hard core comic fans are different, but they have their favorites. I really only read Dark Horse for the Star Wars comics, and their Aliens vs Predator stuff. Never got into the more indie comics, and I just don't have the time or money to get heavily into em these days. I'll wait for the trades for Star Wars story arcs, and that's about it.

Marvel does Star Wars now, I don't think Dark Horse has the license anymore since Disney got a hold of it.
