Experience over a guy that talks really well.

what kind of experience matters if it leads you to nominating sarah fucking palin as your vice president?

furthermore, do you simply have no ideology besides technocratic "shit getting done" bullshit? how in the world is experience at all a necessary or even admirable or important trait?

McCain was up against a hip, young black guy that could energize large swaths of the population and bought into Republican strategists that thought "hey, you can be progressive too and have a young FEMALE running mate". It worked out horribly for him, but I don't really think it was a horrible call, given the horrendous disadvantage he had in the election just on the basis of my aforementioned post about American stupidity valuing charisma over skill.

In response to the bolded section of your post, we currently have Donald Trump as our President. I rest my case.

It was a horrible call, because it was a horrible call. Listening to strategists telling you something stupid and going with it is literally what Donald Trump does every day.

Donald Trump being president has literally nothing to do with the importance of experience. Would Donald Trump be less of a moron with horrific ideas and personality if he had spent time in government? No, he would still be a rich d bag who doesn't care about the poor.

Yeah, exactly.

Sarah Palin had a degree in like communications, was a mayor of city of 7,000 people, and the governor of Alaska for 3 years.

Obama has a doctorate, was an Illinois State Senator for 7 years, and a US Senator for 4.

What are your beliefs that would cause you to jump to McCain? I don't get it.

Anyway, I was hoping to make this topic:

That has nothing to do with his experience.

Donald Trump has shown a fundamental distaste for taking advice or learning absolutely anything.

I think just about any other big famous billionaire would with just as little experience would be doing a better job.

I mean, I agree that experience is relevant in a situation where two people believe the exact same thing but one has more experience. The actual policies and beliefs of the person are significantly more important, though. Why would anyone vote for someone who has "experience" if they hate their actual policies? it just makes them more likely to get bad shit done.

The thing is, back in 2008, I don't think the Republicans were an inherently EVIL party. The Iraq War was a massive clusterfuck, and the recession was horrible, but I think both parties were still legitimately looking at the best interests of the country as a whole. So to me, it came down to two parties that both wanted the best for America. The Republicans nominated a man who'd served in the military and had spent many years in Washington (and thus, even if he'd never governed before, still knew a decent bit about the ins and outs of the Washington machine.) The Democrats nominated a man who had only spent four years in Washington, working as a senator, and most of his platform consisted of lofty goals that sounded great, but would ultimately be politically unfeasible.

I love Obama. I think he's a great guy...but I think he got chewed up and spit out by Washington. It became SO easy for the Republicans to obstruct him and lay the blame for ANYTHING bad on his shoulders, because I don't think he'd experienced the political workings of Washington long enough to properly navigate and game the system. And now we've got assholes like Mitch McConnell running shit.

I literally made this argument on the campaign trail during the primaries in 2008 - that Clinton would make a great president now and Obama would be a great president in 2016.

i can see that.

also gore and obama >> hillary.
though i'm pleased that seems to be majority consensus!

also the issue isn't Hillary being in the spotlight right now, it's the Clintons. Bill's back to being quiet, Hilary's talking here and there, but there's a LOT of buzzing around Chelsea these days and my mind just screeches to a halt whenever i see random praise, support, or frankly anything for her. she somehow picked up all her mother's fake mannerism but added a level of ignorance that shows off both her being a silver spoon princess and her lacking any sort of wisdom whatsoever as she follows along "intellectual" trends like a girl half her age.

that entire family needs to just fuck off. there's this bizarre political worship around them that just makes their relevance great for that small group and groanworthy for everyone else. it's just going to get worse over the next few years too because they're totally planning Chelsea to be Hillary 2.0, starting with an easy senate or house seat and going from there (she's only 37).

i'd associate those who want Ivanka in more with those who want Michelle in, not Chelsea. fits the profile better honestly, despite how creepy that sounds.

i don't want Ivanka in that office either for the record. she is strangely the better of the two daughters when it comes to politics but i hate dynasties and think that was a major underreported factor behind Jeb's utter collapse. that feel of "another Bush, really?"

yeah, hence why nobody wants that ever again.

and ulti for gods sake capitalism is an economic system, not a monetary system.

only capitalists want to raise the minimum wage. they just tend to be social democrats who think capitalism is great if you regulate it.

socialists want workers to seize the means of production and value themselves, rather than capitalists determining their worth and profiting off of their labor.
