Is the 250GB model backwards compatible, does anyone know?

I'm looking at one in a pawn shop for $50.

PS2 backwards compatible? Only the original Fat models were. Slim and Super Slim are not.

You seem to have internet access where you're at, get the model number and look it up.

Thanks.

I suppose it's not a deal breaker; I do still have a PS2. For this price I might as well get it; worse case scenario it doesn't work and I bring it back.

No quite right, only certain models were. 40GB and 80GB, sure, but the 20GB and 60GB weren't if I remember correctly.

And then it wasn't all regions. PAL got software BC instead so couldn't play all games.

Yeah this. It was just the first generation that could play PS2 games. Though all PS3s can play PS1 games.

In the US the 20gb and 60gb were the only BC versions

You've got it mixed up. 20GB and 60GB - the original Fat launch models - were BC. 40 never was, and only certain 80s were - and only partially BC at that. I felt no need to stipulate this anyway because I knew the 250GB he was looking at couldn't possibly be BC anyway.

They actually had several other systems there that I didn't notice at first, all at similar prices. 80GB is $40, and I read that not all of them are compatible.

They also had a 320GB for $50, so I basically have to decide if I want storage space or BC. Either way I'll put a pin in it, since they're not going away anytime soon.

Sorry about that, could have sworn the bigger versions were the quality ones, but since we never got those BC systems here, not completely surprising I made a mistake. I'll try to remember for future.

Actually, I'm wondering if I should get one at all. It is super cheap; less than the price of a new game. But there's not really anything on PS3 that I absolutely want to play. (I plan to get a PS4 eventually, so I can play the Kingdom Hearts collections on that.)

The 60 GB fat should have been backwards compatible. I'm pretty sure that's the one my brother and I bought and I know we played PS2 games on it.
