Cultural competence requires that organizations have a defined set of ethics and principles, and demonstrate behaviors, attitudes, policies, and structures that enable them to work effectively cross-culturally. Cultural competence is a developmental process that evolves over an extended period.

I think it's a good thing. I don't see anything wrong with respecting and learning other cultures in order to effectively have a good working environment. Sure, it's inconvenient for some people, but it's for work and you're getting paid, so who cares.

Also let's not kid ourselves, this isn't a thing they're doing out of goodwill, it's to legally protect their asses.

That's...extremely vague.

What does the process involve, sensitivity training classes?

Yes.
Although, they don't tell you how to think. They just tell you how to behave in the workplace

Not in favor of it, then.

I think the majority of people already know what is appropriate in a work setting. Write the expectations in the employee handbook, then punish the people who violate the policy. Don't treat everyone like a first grader and send them to a class on basic courtesy.

Thing is, not everybody does.
This one temp said they don't like that thing (hajib) this one girl wears. They were let go.
Temps don't go through the training. Maybe, if they did, they would have thought twice before vocalizing it.

What was the context? Did she make a comment to or in front of the person, say something about it to a co-worker, or make a complaint to the boss?

Said it to a few co-workers.
They reported him.

Sounds a like a waste of time due to poor hiring decisions. You're supposed to hire people who fit the firm culture from the start, not indoctrinate them after the fact.

Eh, seems fair then, especially since he said it multiple times. Even if you really want to voice a questionable opinion at work, most people would at least gather a sense of what co-workers they can or cannot do that around.

That guys seems like he had bad judgement and lacked social awareness anyway. I doubt sensitivity training would have helped.

It's not indoctrination. They even tell you that you can be against women in the workplace, just don't bring that mentality to work.
How do you screen those for those types of people without enforcing social engineering?Vertania posted...

Maybe, maybe not.
But it would seem that, as a whole, it would increase the chances that someone who thought that way could still be gainfully employed.
