The horseshoe theory is real. far right and far lefth are very similar the only thing that changes is who they consider evil...far right says the enemy are mexicans and all of islam..while the left says the enemy is white supremacy and males.....meanwhile we centris agree we all shal treat other fairly no matter your race, religion, gender etc...not all whites are KKK, not all Muslims are Islamists....

My take on horseshoe theory: The far right and far left are ideologically quite different, their goals and motivations couldn't be more different. However, their methods are similar and the structure of their arguments is almost identical, you just have to swap out the scapegoat.

Still, the horseshoe is just a model. It's a very narrow way to analyze politics.

Also the Netherlands, and while conservatives dominate the UK, their far-right UKIP has pretty much collapsed. The German right wing populist AfD, while never being anywhere near taking power, is also losing numbers already. The refugee crisis is far from over and the hysteria is dying down already.

That's a pretty bad comparison though. Just because being hit by lightning is unlikely doesn't mean it's not an issue to be worried about - people go through a lot of effort to be safe from lightning. It influences how we build our houses and most people know they shouldn't be out in the open during a thunderstorm or seek shelter under a tree.

It's still a government's duty to protect its citiezens from terrorism. I think it's more like people are realizing that right wing nationalists aren't capable of providing that safety, let alone properly run a country. It also doesn't help how the Trump experiment isn't working out so far.

lolwut? You're aware that just because an election is over, things don't go away, right? When the country only gets worse under Macron -- which it probably will since he's not focused on France's problems -- it's likely that Le Pen or another nationalist candidate will finally win.
