Yes, it should be mandatory Only if they are going in a relationship, otherwise, No. No, it should be up to them if they want to or not View Results A video has been posted online showing 36 y/o Karl Lightner from Portland, Oregon who coaches a boys youth soccer team telling his team that he grew up playing soccer as a GIRL and is a TRANSGENDER Man!! He's the founder and director of Portland Community Football Club and called on a team meeting and explained he went on a recent coaching trip to Washington DC. He said "One of the things that i realized while i was there is that we ask a lot of you guys to show up and be yourselves and be who you are and get to be better players. I haven't totally shared with you something about myself that is kind of important that some of you may or may not know. I am transgender and so what that means is that i was born a girl and so i grew up playing this soccer as a girl. That's not something i share with players or people in the sports world very often because it is not an easy thing. We have a lot of rules in sports about how boys play and how girls play and that's not really fair. I got told a lot of things about being a soccer player as a girl that i couldn't do this, i couldn't do that. I wasn't good enough. I wasn't strong enough or i was too strong, i acted too much like a boy" Karl has been working with youth since he was a teen and left his coaching job at 26 to begin transitioning and shared the truth to his team though he was very hesitant not to as he did not want them to see him differently. He didn't find any issues surrounding his gender since he could "pass" in society's standards but said he could have easily not said anything but said it was part of his responsibility as a "privileged white person" to share his identity. He was extremely nervous to come out ot his team but felt it was a responsibility to come out to his team and be honest with them as they trusted him with his backstories. The Portland Community Football Club provides low income families, most of which are of minority to have the opportunity to get top of the line coaching and level of play on otherwise they might not have had..
