I told her that I did an internship in philly at a middle school (I actually did this) but that my purpose there was to gather info and defend my assertion that academia was failing black youth by not taking their needs into account. And I talked about this for 5 minutes straight and answered all of her questions and she actually believed me and talked to me about the project and said that I seemed "very interested" in it.

Really depends on the type of chart. The stuff I do for work is horrifically complex (frankly I dont know why we even still use Excel) and I usually just use a macro for most formatting.

Excel gives you all the design tools you'd need man. Play with different templates, axes and data labels. Try it Powerpoint, too.

Highlight the data, press F11, play with the below options. If excel tries to give you a weird chart type, right click the chart and change it.

Easiest way is probably to just insert shapes in PowerPoint, get them looking how you want, then manually force the dimensions of your chart in Excel to match. Then you can just paste it in.
