I think games in general get better over time. I've got some nostalgic picks I still love but they would be difficult to play again. An example is Kingdom Hearts - used to love that game but it simply did not hold up when I picked up the HD version.

The top ones are mostly recent but they gave me incredible experiences. Games have been very good to me recently!

Yeah so many games have stats and numbers that 'RPG' has lost meaning. I almost took Bloodborne off, but then I'd have to take off Dark Souls which I feel is (almost) definitely an RPG...yeah.

Both games have stats, level ups, equipable gear, and special skills that you learn and equip. They technically fit. I was close to removing them though.

Yeah. That's not really a thing with me. There are very few games I've played that I don't feel hold up to be honest. Feels like it'd be a much more minor factor with RPGs at that, since it's not exactly a genre that relies on tech much.

Hell the biggest RPG I feel doesn't hold up (it moves so slowly and it's even more glaring now than it was at the time having tried to replay it a couple of years ago) you've got at #9 on your list!

I played FF9 recently and had a lot of fun. The music/graphics/story are still great and I honestly never minded the slow battle pace to begin with. If I played it again I'd probably use the Steam version though as it's probably faster.

For a lot of games I try to think 'would I like this as much if I played it for the first time today'? The answer is usually no, but I still give nostalgia it's due. Skies of Arcadia and ToS will always bring back don't memories. (Skies desperately needs a port & fix though. Now that is a game with random encounter pace issues.)

Planescape has never had fun gameplay so it doesn't bug me if it technically gets worse over time! I still love everything about Skies - including the battle system itself - it's just the encounter rate that drags it down.

I wasn't huge on Undertale when I first played it. It's the subsequent playthroughs (with all the changes they brought) and post-game reflection that really made love the game. Half my favorites are like that. FF9, Dragon Age Origins, and the Fire Emblems significantly grew in appreciation over the years. In contrast I loved Xenoblade and all the Souls games from the get-go.

Yes and yes. It's part RPG, part character action game, part twinstick shooter, and part shmup. It's a mishmash of genres but it also had EXP so eh.

I can get all sorts of stuff running -- Skype via web browser, tons of apps like Netflix and even Google Play's KOTOR -- but when it comes to more traditional fare, unless something has a ChromeOS version, I can't play it.

Yeah, I don't actually like the original SH that much. I appreciate the atmosphere and everything, but it's old and clunky and I'm color blind so I can't see where the critical spot is on the ring.
