Liberal Cartoonist, Matt Furie has killed PEPE THE FROG that he created in his latest comic because he can not stand that the alt-right has transformed his beloved character into a racist-fascist and anti-semitic symbol!!

He tried in a failed attempt to reclaim the frog last year and finally he just killed him off so that the right-wing can stop using his work for their gain

He described Pepe as a "chilled out frog who likes to eat snacks and talk on the phone and smoke weed" before it was hijacked by the right-wing and branded a hate symbol after Pepe originally joined the boys club

It was first popular for user-generated mutations with the catchphrase "Feels good man" and it was used by other celebs like Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry as his expressions were used for smugness to rage..

But right-wing trolls hijacked it and flooded social media with different memes..particularly for Donald Trump's campaign as it became a tongue-in cheek symbol for the alt-right fringe movement and used it for white nationalism, neo-nazism and anti-immigration while promoting Donald Trump as their lord and saviour.

The frog then took different forms to Adolf Hitler and a member of the KKK

The Anti-Defamation League branded Pepe as a hate symbol and asked Furi to reclaim his character with the #SavePepe hashtag..

He asked people to flood the net with "peaceful or nice" versions of Pepe as he said he had to take some responsbility to reclaim him as he feels Pepe is like his kid..but it failed and it just made Pepe even more into an alt-right image.

Kyle Bristow, an alt-right Michigan attorney said Pepe is now THEIRS as it's the symbol of the alt-right

Matt said "Before he got wrapped up in politics, pepe was an inside joke and a symbol for feeling sad and feeling good and many things in between. I understand that its' out of my control, but in the end, Pepe is whatever you say he is and i, the creator, say Pepe is love".

I doubt most people know the original source of Pepe the Frog or care even if they are aware of the memes with Pepe the Frog in it long before it was a anti liberal symbol.

In short the original creator killing off the character doesn't really mean anything because it's no longer in his control what Pepe the Frog means to people.

FYI, Pepe the Frog was adapted as an anti liberal symbol ironically after Hillary's campaign said it was an alt-right symbol even though it wasn't when she said it.

Sounds like the creator wants this to go, hence the whole death thing.

Now that the only person who gave it depth killed it off it will just die out along with all the other overused and shallow memes.

Basically ideologists and propagandists over emphasis on symbols and memes. Especially if used by oppositions, which easily become demonized in order to propel one's own ideology and politics as morally superior. Which is especially misguided and backfires when such symbols were merely jokes. The demonization attempts to curtail the usage and proliferation of these deplorable memes, but Obviously antisocial rebels will do it even more often because it has triggered the response they wanted.

Unfortunately the creator of this particularly art is caught in the crossfire of this ideological war. So to absolve himself, he must kill his own creation from his official works. However that doesn't mean the meme disappears from memespace just because the original creator abandoned it. It has exploded in notoriety far beyond the control of an unknown artist.
