He was complaining about child support, because he was stupid and ended up with like 3 kids by 3 different women who each filed for support. So it was really more of a general warning I guess.

Judging by how he acts now, and how he described his life before, I think he used to be well off. Then he seemed to have blown a bunch of it at some point prior to the child support thing. Then that made him have to monitor his finances, which he didn't like. That's the biggest complaint he had, that the kids and their mother's were taking his money...

Worked with guys like that before. Knew a cook that was like 35 or so and had 5 different kids with 3 different women. He was constantly telling people not to do what he did because he only made like $10 an hour, couldn't afford a car, and was so behind on child support payments that he was always afraid the sheriffs department was going to knock on his door and arrest him.

Then after he was hit with child support, he couldn't afford to do that any more, and blames them for it. He said that he went to court over not paying, and he supposedly told the judge he wasn't going to get another job so he wouldn't have any income for them to take. The judge told him they'd just take what he still had, then he'd end up in jail over it. He's been bouncing around different jobs ever since then, and he's causing problems here too. He's way too set in his ways of getting what he wants and having others deal with the consequences.

I do understand. The world we live in is unforgiving when we stumble with our choices. Ah, this takes me back to my young adulthood years.

My father wouldn't discuss marriage or sexual health with us as he viewed it inappropriate as he was our father and us his daughters. My mum did all the talking; dad was using her as proxy. XD

He had her tell us some simple advice.

1. Work hard and honest.
2. Practice safe sex (so that we may not start an unplanned family).
3. Be aware and responsible for our choices in life (as people don't often get second chances. And NEVER BLAME our mistakes on others. Accountability is key).
4. Save, save, save (have a nest egg for that rainy day and own a home while having liquidity)
5. The world is unforgiving (when people make mistakes, they spend years- even decades- to just get back up)

And lastly:
6. Live simply and humbly. :)))

So yes. Your colleague had a harsh punishment. Well, as they say, experience (painful) is the best teacher.

In fairness, it's one of the few pleasures/escapes poor people get in the world. I mean, their life may be shit wall to wall under normal circumstances. The one thing they can do for free is fuck.

Of course the long term cost is intense but it's hard to think like that when everything else is garbo.
