Mine used to cancel my soda subscription.

I've lived with my dad most my life(since the age of 4 from what I recall). The discipline I received were more than a light smack. When I cried as a kid due to said smack I'd get smacked again because that fixes everything. According to my dad he only did that because he was "angry". Clearly he can't handle kids right. A light smack is fine but he took it a whole other level. He stopped and calmed down a lot when we became old enough to hit him back. I never hit him back but my brother on the other hand wasn't against to the idea. My "fighting back" is more verbal than physical when it comes to family at least.

I'd also get spanked. I don't think I'd let anyone spank a kid under my supervision, it's shown to be harmful to their mental health later on in life.

Depends on what I did.

Many times lecture followerd by punishment or restrictions.

Sometimes a spanking, rarely a belting.

It usually fit what I did. I refused to listen and broke a pierce of furniture/ a toy I liked was smashed and I was never allowed to own that toy.

The key to punishment is making it something that matters to the kid.

In today's society removing them from a phone or online access can actually be more harsh in the kids mind than being spanked.

Quite frankly andyone who thinks spanking is abuse is an idiot. It's not abuse cause the kid was spankedX it becomes abuse when it's done and the parent knows it holds no meaning of correction for the kid.

Like taking away a kids phone is meaningless and just cruel if the kid has no friends to be cut off from in the first place.

They never really ever punished me, mainly because I almost never did anything wrong. Always got good grades, never got in trouble in school.

I WAS grounded for a weekend back when I was maybe 10. I was acting up around my cousin who was babysitting me, and my parents came home to witness it.

Is this something parents really did, because I just thought of that gimmick account on Reddit where the guy starts a long story and it always ends with him being beaten by his dad with jumper cables.


Also, real talk, my parents would take away computer or console time. It was effective because I fucking love my video games.

A long conversation on my wrongdoing; most importantly WHY it was wrong and how my failing affected others at home. It's mostly tied to religious teaching followed by alone time to think on things for myself. Followed by days of chores to chastise and instil humility.

My parents don't hit. But they do drive their point home with words; examples and stories. That worked out best in our family.

Spanking w/ a belt (people do it without?). In hindsight, I always thought it was weird how my mother would beat me more than my father, but it made more sense now that I realize that: mother = actions, father = words.

Worst one was when I was 9-10 I was refusing to get a bath for a week and was filthy my dad put me in the bath and scrubbed with a hand brush similar to a yard brush, I learned never to do that again, pretty funny looking back on it.

From what I hear from my peers and other people near my age of the same background, it's the mother doing the spanking more often compared to the father. Even my sister threatens to spank her son if acts too wild when visiting, but the father doesn't even come at all (he's not distant or estranged, just doesn't visit me and my dad).

I only ever got a (admittedly very painful) slap on the wrist from my dad when I lied about breaking some glass furniture, and some slaps on the wrist from my mom (can't remember why, though). Other than that, I've always been a good kid so I never really needed to be disciplined much.

Intimidation, I guess. Most of the time I didn't do anything wrong because I didn't want to think about what would happen if I did. Probably caused major anxiety problems but I got better

This is where most of my punishments led, but primarily started out with just a belt or slap instead. It'd depend on how they felt afterwards on whether I got worse or not.

I was a really good kid too, not even a smart ass. I was just the thing they'd use to vent their frustrations for some reason. My brother thought it was hilarious that he could do something to puss them off, and it'd end with me getting beaten. >_>

Stern conversation and I'd lose my electronics for a while. Would also make me research and write a report on various concepts like finances and credit building which was actually really helpful for my adult life. Spankings were reserved for really bad stuff like when I forged their signature on a failing test.
