If I'm making a pizza and you show up and I finish the pizza before I wait on you, I'm still doing my job.

A lot of people in the ER don't have true emergencies either. I'm saying for non-emergent visits, it would be highly unethical to triage based off of if you tip.

I don't expect every employee to drop whatever task they're doing the moment I walk in the door for a carry out. If you're finishing up a task or on the phone, I expect to wait. That's normal. If you ignore me for 10 minutes to finish an entire pizza before handing me my pizza that's just waiting by the register because I'm known to not tip carry out I'll never give you my business again. Period. It's highly unethical behavior and I don't respect it. I've gone to plenty establishments that have given me reasonable service without having to tip carry out.

If you literally expect it, I won't go to you. Plain and simple.

There's not even a tipping option for ordering carryout when you go to any given pizza chain website. Fact is your job isn't particularly exceptional and like that guy said, it's highly unethical to give benefits to tippers when your business discourages tipping carryout in the first place

Look man, I know you wouldn't care if I didn't give you my business. That's not my point. I'm just saying it's a huge fucking double standard from my point of view. I'm $300,000 in debt as a medical student and if I treated you as a doctor the same way you'd presumably treat someone who wouldn't tip on fucking carry out, it would be a joke. Absolute joke.

I tip my delivery drivers and waiters/waitresses religiously 20%, even if the service was poor. I'm polite and pretty "go with the flow" when interacting with everyone, so even if there is something wrong on my order I often don't even bring it up. I don't expect outstanding service at pick up. I don't expect you to drop every task immediately to tend to me. A few moments wait is perfectly reasonable. I've never not had good service at a place with carry out for not tipping. It's never been an issue and the employees have always been good to me, even without the tips.

So I'm saying from the point of view of if I were to receive less than standard service for lack of a carry out tip, I just personally won't go to you. If you go out of your way to provide subpar service for lack of a carry out tip, don't act like the victim here. You're unethical and expect more than your work deserves, to be quite honest.

You realize you are arguing the ethics of 5 dollars here, right? It's not that deep. My point is.. If you frequent a place for carryout and want service more on your side, tip a little. Except at my budget, 5 dollars is a lot. I barely ever eat out as a result, but in the few times I do, I can't be expected to tip $5 on my $10 pizza for a cashier to hand it to me.

Like I already said 10 times. I don't expect you to go above and beyond the call of duty here. I don't expect you to hang up with the customer on the phone or stop rolling the dough the moment I walk in the door. If I have to wait a few moments for you to finish a task to then get to the register to ring me up, that's normal. I don't act impatient. I don't give them lip for it. I stand patiently, smile, and say thank you when they ring me up.

Again, I get that if I were to tip regularly, I'd probably get "perks." But I don't care about those.

My whole point is don't go out of your way to make things worse on my end for lack of a carry out tip. Just give me the minimum reasonable service. That's it. And I've never experienced less then that, so all of my points are on a theoretical if you inconvenienced me on purpose because you expect a carry out tip.

I don't have an issue with tipping delivery drivers, since they're going above and beyond to provide a service at their own expense. But tipping for carryout? Lmao, what for? For doing your job as expected? Acting entitled when you work behind a counter is probably why you're stuck working behind a counter in the first place. I couldn't imagine staring at a tip jar knowing that the contents of an old jar of mayonnaise is how the quality of my work is determined.

5$ per trip to the car IMO.

If it takes him two trips to the car, it is obviously a bigger order and there is more work for him. I mean, if his second trip is something small you can count it as one trip. Two trips means its prob at least a 150-200$ order. 10$ for that is good.

They more or less provide their own fuel for their cars, plus somebody has to pay for all the wear and tear on their vehicles associated with driving to several customers day in and day out. What do you put up with working behind a counter? Standing for 2 hour stretches at a time?
