Christian mom blogger Glennon Doyle Melton and retired soccer star Abby Wambach have tied the knot over the weekend.
Melton, whose book Love Warrior is a New York Times #1 best seller and who has established a dedicated following on her blog Momastery, shared the good news when she reshared Wambach's photo on Instagram.
'My beloveds – please never give up on love. Life could surprise the hell out of you. Trust me- you might just wake up one morning and find yourself smackdab in the middle of heaven. I love my wife. LOVE WINS.'
Melton has long been an outspoken advocate for same-sex marriage. She is a Christian blogger writing about families and motherhood.
'Figuring out my stance on homosexuality felt like a life and death decision,' she wrote in 2013, 'I know my Jesus, I love Him, and I think if he needed me to believe that homosexuality was a sin, He would have mentioned it.'
The mom-of-three has also stated that her ex-husband, who she's written about extensively, has been fully supportive of her new life with Wambach.
Last year Wambach and her former wife divorced shortly after the soccer star's arrest for DUI. At the time she also revealed her abuse of prescription drugs.
The couple made their marriage public on Monday morning with some pictures from the ceremony which showed off Wambach's red and white outfit and Melton's silver dress.
The pair started dating last November after both divorced their previous partners. They announced their engagement just three months ago, in February.
On Valentine's Day, Wambach shared photos of Melton, writing: 'I found myself when I met you @glennondoylemelton The end. I love you!'
Melton also shared a photo of the couple on Valentine's Day, writing on Instagram: 'And then one day it all makes sense. Every bit of it. And you can finally see your past as one long, blessed road leading you home.
'And you understand that every bit of it was necessary and that every bit of it was holy. Thank you for being my home @abbywambach . I love us.'
Melton announced their relationship back in November 2016.
Wambach divorced fellow soccer star Sarah Huffman last year while Melton announced her divorce from Craig Melton, her husband of 14 years, last August.
'They're lucky kids, to be surrounded by so much love. We have family dinners together — all six of us — and Abby cooks. (She is an AMAZING chef because Jesus loves me).
'We go to the kids' school parties together. We are a modern, beautiful family. Our children are loved. So loved. And because of all of that love, they are brave.'
Wambach was one of the inspirational guests of honor on Melton's book tour in September - and has also been blisteringly honest about her past.
In her memoir Forward, released in September 2016, the retired US national team star recounts her career, revealed her struggle with alcohol and prescription drugs for years prior to her arrest for driving under the influence this past April.
Chapters in the book are words that she has been labeled: tomboy, captain, lesbian, and addict.
Wambach spends a good portion of the book detailing her bouts with vodka and pills, which included Vicodin, Ambien and Adderall.
But she says she has been sober since the night she was pulled over in Portland, Oregon, after dinner with friends.
Wambach said that night was a culmination of events as her life spiraled out of control. Her marriage was on the rocks, she was wrestling with her retirement and her direction, and she had just taken a new job with ESPN.
She issued a statement on Facebook after she was released from jail the next morning, taking full responsibility for her actions and apologizing to her friends, family and fans.
In the aftermath, the car company MINI USA withdrew her from its heavily promoted advertising campaign, which also starred tennis great Serena Williams.
