Yes No View Results Offspring frontman, Dexter Holland has FINALLY got his Doctorates Degree after putting his studies on hold when his band hit the daily double in the 90's!! He received his PhD in molecular biology during the University of Southern California Commencement on May 12th, more than 20 years after his band broke it big with their 1994 album Smash. The Pretty Fly for a White Guy Singer has been working on a degree bit by bit over the years during his grueling years as a musician as he made his 175 page dissertation about molecular dynamics of HIV His paper was titled "Discovery Of Mature MicroRNA Sequences within the Protein-Coding Regions of Global HIV-1 Genomes: Predictions of Novel Mechanisms of Viral Infection and Pathogenicity. Dexter said he wanted to contribute in some small way to the knowledge he learned about HIV and AIDS as the disease kills more than 1 million people every year. He said "My research is not meant to be a cure or even an immediate step toward a care, but i believe that by adding to the vast amount of information that we've learned about HIV in the last 30 years or so, we'll get there" He pledged to continue his research and public more research over the next few years. He began his PhD after garduating as his class valedictorian in high school and got a bahcelors of science in biology and masaters in molecular biology..but just as his band, Offspring was taking off and their touring schedule increased, he put it all on hold. His band signed to Sony soon after but his mother wasn't too happy about his decision and his professor thought he was making a mistake at the time.. The band went on to sell more than 36 million records worldwide and after his long-awaited graduation, his band is headed right back on tour and promises new music.
