Do you spend more time playing new games or replaying old games?

The topic about losing interest in gaming had a few people note they still play games, but they mostly just replay old games they've beaten before and I wanted to see how common that is.

I'm certainly guilty for that as well and I'm constantly replaying old games. But I still play plenty of new games as well, and would probably say I'm at about a 50/50 split of new vs old.

More replays. I'd say I probably replay two to three games for every new one I play. There are still plenty of games I haven't played yet that interest me, but it's always easier just to go back to a familiar one. I guess knowing what I'm getting out of something is more enticing to me than the prospect of an interesting new experience that carries the risk of being disappointing or difficult to sit through.

Mostly I buy and play new games. The odd time I'll pick up 'old' games that I didn't get around to buying so that's as good as having a new game to me. I sometimes play retro games too but I don't do that as much as if I'm spending time gaming I want something new and not something I already know. It's like with watching movies I very rarely watch the same movie more than once same as it's very rare I play the same game more than once.

Lately, I've been playing new games but I think it's because a lot of really good ones came out. BotW, Nier, soon Persona 5. Prior to that, I mostly replayed old games or I played something like Overwatch regularly.

More new than old, but I can often stick with a new game for a pretty long time. In general, most of the old titles is handheld stuff and more often Pokemon versions.

Like half and half.
I try to go for new experiences, and most of the games I replay I first beat too long ago to really remember. Not to say I'm above playing Danganronpa 2 once a year.

I buy a good number of games, though not nearly the number I once did, and I tend to pour all of my time in my favourites. Most new ones are "one and done" if I even finish them at all.

I mostly play old games that are new to me. I don't own a current gen console and the newest PC game I own is probably over 10 years old.

I replay my old favorites in between the handful of new releases I'm interested in every year. That said, this year has been pretty good so far, so I haven't been playing many older games yet. This summer is looking dry, so I'll finally be able to replay my yearly runs of Valkyrie Profile, Vagrant Story, and FFT.

Depends on how you define "new" and "old".

For instance, the last game I was playing was Borderlands 2 on my 360. I could see how some people might consider that an "old" game, because it's been out for 5 years and is on a last gen console. On the other hand, considering it's only 5 years old when a lot of people who talk about "old" games are really referring to stuff they played as a kid 20+ years ago, I could easily see it considered new as well.

I rarely go back much older than last gen (except for the occasional re-release game like Day of the Tentacle on my PS4), but I also rarely buy games at release (or even in their first year, in a lot of cases). The newest game I own right now literally came out a year ago (May 2016), and I still haven't even gotten around to playing it.

The last few games I've played have been a bit of Halo: Reach, Assassin's Creed: Rogue, then before that Rise of the Tomb Raider and GTAV. At some point in the new future I'm probably going to play Arkham Origins.

At some point I'm probably going to buy Horizon: Zero Dawn and Dishonored 2 (which would be the newest games I'd own when I do), but I still haven't gotten around to either, and I don't feel particularly pressured to get either when GotY editions are a thing and I've probably got a half-dozen other games I bought in the past and never got around to playing yet.

In this case my wording was rather poor and I actually meant for this topic to be about replaying games vs playing games you've never played before. So assuming you hadn't previously played Borderlands 2, it would qualify as a "new game".

But I'm also under the assumption that there really aren't many people picking up PS1 era games for the first time and playing them at this point.

I'd say it's about 50/50, but my definition of "new" game doesn't necessarily mean the game came out recently. It just means I've never played it before.

I've got a stupidly large backlog. I really need to stop replaying old stuff.

Yeah, that's the definition I use as well. If I haven't played it before, it's a new game.
