It was the AC I enjoyed the most, though even with the seafaring action, it did wear thin a bit by the end. (I don't remember being able to fast travel?) But anyway, blowing up forts and stuff was great.

I completely understand that and agree, but I'm also disappointed that I'm certain a lot of people thought like you and didn't play Rogue even though it's totally a better Black Flag.

Probably second-best after 2.

I loved the ship stuff as much as anyone but I can't understand why they took away your personal (on foot) wanted level. That and Ed wasn't really as strong a character as Ezio.

I thought it's probably one of the best stories in an AC game which isn't exactly a high bar to reach but nonetheless I remember it much better than any others. It's still more or less a Black Flag clone, but ships weren't as high a focus in it for the main missions since they wanted you to interact with the Templar side of things and didn't want to coop you on the ship all game.

Not really. It focuses more on the Templar side of things prior to AC3. It still has ships on par with Black Flag, but just in a different map since you're around colonial America and the arctic.

Rogue is my personal favourite, although AC4: BF is a close second.

Revelations could have been great, if not for a couple terrible ideas.

AC2 and Brotherhood are both great, of course.

The first AC was really cool at the time (to me, at least), but it's been blown away by it's successors, and is pretty difficult to go back and play now.

AC3 has some great elements, but also a lot of problems muddling it up.

AC3 was not better.

It had characters that were actually interesting, still had the modern story going on, and didn't overdo it with the sailing.

It seems like most of the people that loved Black Flag are the ones that didn't like the series to begin with and just wanted a pirate sim.

I hated AC1 so much at first that it turned me away from the series until after Brotherhood came out. I went back and trudged through it to continue with the series.

After playing the entire series up through Unity (even the shitty DS, Vita, and PSP titles), I decided to give it another try and it's now one of my favorites. It's the only game in the series where I felt like I could turn off the HUD and still play through the game by paying attention to the environment. It made me realize how much they started emphasizing menial collectibles and "point A to pount B" tasks afterwards.

idk, I still had an insane amount of hype for it going into ACIII. Revelations didn't do a whole lot iirc, but it did give some insight into Desmond's backstory.

The amount of time I wasted in ACII going for 100% probably helped me get invested in all the Precursor lore. I'm guessing most players didn't bother with that.

AC4 was a better pirate game than AC game. I was pretty lost by the story by the end since you're an outsider to all the characters. Also **** those follow missions.

Rogue had the better balance since you're playing a characters with stakes in the war between the Assassins and Templairs.

Yeah, I'd definitely recommend Rogue if you enjoyed Black Flag. It's a very similar game, but better. The only thing subjectively better would be the setting. You might like the Carribean setting better than the one Rogue goes with. But...

- Larger world: There's two maps to explore instead of one. There's the North Atlantic (an icy glacier area which I'm a big fan of) and the Hudson River Valley.

- Better story: The story is more interesting, featuring an Assassin who sees things about the Creed he disagrees with (and is very much shown to be questionable), and joins the Templars as a result. The missions are more varied with far fewer tailing missions, and the tutorial is pretty much done right after the first couple of missions. No more dragging out the tutorial for two/three Sequences...thank God. It's a bit of a shorter story as a result but I'd take that over one that drags on and gets boring.

- Better setpieces: One of the missions takes place during the Lisbon earthquake of 1755...you can imagine how intense that might be. Also provides an interesting in-universe explanation for why that happened...there's also a chase sequence in the North Atlantic that was really...cool. Pardon the pun.

The ship combat was great at first but was too shallow to carry the entire game. The melee combat and land missions were terrible just like every other AC game.
