Preferably those that are of a comparable length to western graphic novels (even relatively short ones). Reading Sand Land and it had me wondering.

Also, what are some good series with only a few volumes?

Boku dake ga Inai Machi is 9 volumes (50? chapters). It was mostly decent all the way to the end. Dunno if nine constitutes "a few" to you, though.

Hotel. Oldie but a goodie. Best one shot i've come across (though i haven't read many, still really cool)
