Do you think he should foot the bill?

19 y/o Shadrach Yasiah from Nebraska faces up a $10,000 BILL after he plowed onto a newly poured concrete!!

He drove through a 24 gap between traffic control cones and ended up getting his blue Honda Civic stuck on fresh cement..

Police said it occurred on a portion of a road repair project and that they WON'T cite the 19 y/o driver because they said it wasn't obvious that the concrete wasn't dry.

But city engineer, Thomas Shafer disagrees sand said HE is responsible for the repairs and estimated it would cost 10,000 or more to pay to remove his car and scraping out the ruined slurry, repouring more cement and finishing it.

He said the cement was probably less than 30 minutes old" when he drove on it and says "it was really not set up in a manner or fashion for a vehicle and they sunk up to the axles in it"

Police said it took more than 2 hours to get it out and slowed traffic.

Shadrach apparently tried to force a shortcut and cut through the closed lane to get out of traffic...

Do you think he should foot the bill? let's see what people think

Erm...

ab4VqHf

That's the view they had, complete with traffic cones. The kid is a great a fucking moron, and deserves to be on the hook for the repair bill.

Yea he was trying to be one of those "lulz Guyz check me me out I drive so good and I'm impatient so I'm super chill and cool!" Guys. The kind of guy you see swerve from lane to lane on the free way to get ahead only to end up right next to them at the next exit.

I'd probably make that same mistake, going through the big gap to make a left turn.

if that's how the original cones were set up then I could definitely see how he would think that the cement was fine and it could have just been another turning lane

Have you never been to Arizona? The roads in Tempe are concrete and they're probably better than anywhere else in the country

what makes this even funnier is he isn't even that far from what seems to be near the end...yes there are still cones set up but even if he succeeded in getting past.....it would have saved him maybe 5 seconds.

You can clearly see it was wet to begin with, looking at the cement itself.

Then you add in the many pylons... then the fact that NO TRAFFIC WAS TURNING THERE and were instead turning up further.

Hes an idiot; and should have to pay for it. Taxpayers should not have to pay for his mistake...

So the question is whether he plowed over some cones to get in there or the workers really didn't put signs or barriers up to properly close off that portion, because based on the pics, there was nothing in his way to go through and judging from that pic, it looks like you could drive right on through to get into the turn lane. If the latter is true, it's not his fault.

And no, you can't make this argument either

You can clearly see it was wet to begin with, looking at the cement itself.

because that concrete could have been newly cured and still looked that color.

A police incident report said it wasn't obvious that the concrete wasn't dry and that Yasiah drove into it through a 24-foot gap between traffic control cones.

Whoops, guess they forgot to place the cones back where they were. Both parties are at fault here. Not to say the kid isn't an idiot, but he's not the only one that would have done that.

What does common sense say when you see a long line of cones, no traffic on the other side, and road workers working on that side of the road?

Based on the picture I would say it is not his fault because it wasn't made clear that it was wet. On highways they often have a gap of that distance or so to get off on an exit ramp even though the lane is close to drive straight on.

We know that the cones had to have been set up there, as no one else was going through it.
The question now is, why didn't they put cones in front of it? Why put the cones in the spot above it?

I voted no, because that's an absurd price to pay for a few feet of concrete they'll have to repour
