No period, so I guess that's not a true 80/80.

Anyway, I want to change up what programs I have for a few things and was basically just asking about others' experiences and knowledge involving these things. I'm running Windows 10, have Avira (which I want to replace, but didn't really like Avast either), malwarebytes, Hitman Pro, and Tinywall (which I chose over zonealarm because of how much less RAM it requires, but I'm not sure if I want to keep it either.) Also have CCleaner.

Looking for suggestions for:
Firewall
Antivirus, malware(bytes), root kits, etc. etc.
VPN service
Registry cleaning
Clutter removal

Also I'm not sure if I can use my portable hard drive for virtual memory and if there is a way to do that, I guess I could use some instruction or I'll just look it up. Honestly don't need it, but just in case.

for a firewall, you ideally want hardware. if you wanna cheap out, all software based firewalls are inferior so may as well go with windows firewall since its built into the OS

antivirus:
free - malware bytes and avast antivirus (windows defender is ok but avast has a higher detection rate at the expense of annoying popups)
paid - malware bytes (free or paid) and symantec nod 32

vpn - private tunnel or tunnel bear

registry cleaning - ccleaner

clutter removal - ccleaner

virtual memory - lmao

Just use Windows firewall. It's consistently one of the most up to date and effective firewalls. If you really need to scan your computer, use Malware bytes.

The number 1 defense against viral attacks is smart browsing. Don't click on ads, don't download suspicious files, and don't click all willy nilly through program installations.

Just to be clear, I want both free and for pay suggestions, but please specify if you're talking about the paid model.

there are 0 programs worth paying for

get an external for backups for the price of 1 year of any paid service

if you manage to fuck your computer up just wipe the HDD and reinstall, restoring your important files from said backup

i keep it next to the PC and disconnect it when not backing up to it

to be clear this isnt an alternative to paid servies, it's a vastly superior outcome for your $, because paid services do nothing relevant that free services don't also do

Anti-virus is generally a scam. If you understand truly why you need it, then you don't need it. It's there to fix mistakes - so don't make the mistakes in the first place.
Also get ublock origin on firefox (or chrome if you don't mind being tracked).

Comodo IMHO is amazing, it has 2 whitelisting filters and blacklisting. If you run a program that is not on either one it gets put into the sandbox and can't harm your computer.

Already have this, guess I forgot to include it.

Also I guess I forgot to ask about disk defragmentation programs, if those are even needs anymore.
