I miss the random craziness of the boards. I guess it was because we were all young and there was a lot more of us, but it was like high school or something. So much random, funny, and interesting stuff being posted all the time, you could hardly even keep up with it all. It was way too easy to spend hours on the boards and not even realize it.

Now the boards have mostly a darker/more serious tone and are full of people shitposting and flaming each other. It feels like most of the Internet is like that now, whereas before people used to be a lot more fun and care free.

Tbqh "the next generation" is deep in the shitshow the internet has become. I don't really think it's going to return to what it was.

Yeah, I understand that most everyone posting here is older now. It's just weird to me that "new blood" never really came in to bolster the community. Some would say that's a good thing, but where did they all go? Reddit? Or are message boards in general just not of any interest to the younger generation? Much in the same way that AIM, MSN Messenger, etc.. are no longer a thing?

I remember one topic a couple years ago on late night CE, everyone was spamming porn pics and it didn't get taken down for a long time that night.

My guess is Reddit. GameFAQs has nostalgic value to a lot of us. That and it actually allows for conversation and debate, unlike reddit which is just a bunch of one liners that I assume kids upvoted. I use Reddit myself but not for any meaningful conversation because it's trash for that.

My guess is most of us are holdouts from when this board and this site were both populated and popular. I too remember a 13 year old topic but it just closed a few weeks ago by its own TC.

I remember board wars, invasions, site restructuring, the merger, alts being banned for suicide. Back when certain users would come for gamefaqs and cjayc like it was personal.

The spinoff boards populated by such users, sometimes ran by, where anything goes and conversations would go towards the grey part of the web and darker. LOIC cannons, etc.

I remember secret boards populated by board hunters, before the archival monster was born and began to clutter many of those very same boards. I'll never forget how much fun I had playing MAFIA with users of G. Other, some of whom I considered my friend. RIP Pnarzi.

But this place is dying. Everyone's on Reddit. Same as me. And the only reason I still come here is nostalgia. I'm locked out of my main but remember my Alts pass. I imagine most of us still here have been coming a long time. More will stop coming here over time, and eventually we will see these boards close. But I don't know if the site itself will ever shut down.

This. CE back in the mid-late 2000's was always a blast and hella fun to participate now. But now CE kind of just lost its sense of community and is more of a collection of bitter individuals now >_> I miss when people would play games together, make clans in games, make sign pics, do dumb stuff irl "For CE!", and just always crack jokes. Things are way too serious and political here now.

The younger generation now isn't using shit like GameFAQs. I discovered it by looking up how to do something in some Harry Potter game, and the first result being some walkthroughs (do people even use those anymore on here?).

Nowadays if someone does the same thing they'll get a hundred YouTube videos showing them what to do with no reading required.

I'll probably stick around on CE for awhile though. I've said I'd leave countless times over the year but something just keeps making me stay. Too many memories.
