The CPC elected Scheer to lead them. Scheer, if you weren't aware (you probably weren't, for reasons you will find out soon), is a pretty bog standard Conservative with no balls whatsoever. He's against same sex marriage, but is opposed to re-opening the debate because society's already decided and he knows he would be fighting a losing battle. He's against abortion, but has said he won't change any legislation already in place around it. He's against marijuana legalization, but has said that by the time he could challenge it, the marijuana industry would have already ingrained itself in Canada's economy and it would jeopardize too many jobs to make it illegal again.

You see a pattern?

Scheer is cold porridge. Scheer is fucking bland. Scheer has no personality. Scheer has no balls. Scheer has no fucking hope against Trudeau, at least Trudeau has nice hair!

Scheer is Harper without the balls, without the cult of personality, without even the piano bullshit to make him at least somewhat personable. He has no hope in hell.

Hell, he's not even a very hard line conservative even by Canadian standards. He wants to improve our maternity leave policies, and he supports our refugee programs.

Electoral reforms, marijuana legalization, and religious dress were the big-ticket issues last election. Also, general growth or decay of social programs, with tax increases or decreases associated therein.

honestly: "ballsy" politicians are nothing but agents of chaos who stir shit up and, in the event that they win, see their new policies reset within a decade.

sounds like he is focusing on fiscal conservatism. OP listed a bunch of socially conservative views which do not really cover all conservative positions

I expect the budget will be the big ticket item when it comes to the next election because it should be clear by then the amount of debt the liberals put us into.

Like I said, he's middle of the road on many social programs, so given that, I'm pretty sure he's middle of the road fiscally as well given that they necessarily go in tandem with one another.

Scheer being not a very hardcore social conservative is a good thing for his election prospects

Though like usual, the defining feature of who wins the next election is how much the ruling party manages to annoy people. Trudeau has lost a fair bit of his good will, but still has some room to lose more before his re-election starts looking unlikely. Most relatively recent federal or provincial elections in Canada where the opposition wins, they'd still have won if they ran a potato as their leader.

Also to the extent that it matters, this is a relevant point. A leader who focuses on fiscal matters primarily could score some points off the rising debt.

I worded that wrong, I edited it to clarify; he wants to expand our maternity leave policy and he still wants to accept refugees. Those cost money, which require taxes, which means he doesn't have a super conservative fiscal plan to rally his party behind.
