Hopefully this means we see a bigger increase in other jobs. I got my buddy who is a certified EMT/firefighter making 11 an hour. The fact that someone did all that certification and training to make the same as a grocery bagger is crazy

That's 15 an hour min btw. My phones autocorrect sucks

When does it take effect? Here in California, it will reach that in 2022.

He has a much better job than a grocery bagger. I wouldn't quit my job to go wait tables if you paid me what I was making now + tips.

Rest assured, grocery baggers will be a thing of the past after this.

The thing is why. Instead of wasting time and money training and putting your in danger just chill and bag groceries

Wage isn't determined by how hard something is / how much time or effort you put in....wage is determined by the aggregate market value of the product that you create, which is determined by supply and demand. If you as a business owner are forced to pay someone $15/hr for a job that creates $11/hr worth of value, you are losing $4/hr per employee at that level.

And if more people can afford your product, the job that was previously making $11/hr may end up making $19 an hour.

This is essentally the reverse of trickle down. The idea behind trickle down is that let people with assloads of money keep it all so that they can use it to create more jobs.

Except that's not what happens. They keep it all and spend it on themselves, mostly.

Raising the minimum wage is a pretty good way of making sure the big companies have trickle down enforced on them.

And the nonsense that so and so is doing ____ for the same money is just that, nonsense. Google's main corporate chief custodian makes a 6-figure salary. Sure, it's google, but he's basically a fucking janitor. Not only does he get paid that kind of money but he also gets all of Google's crazy ass benefits.

Unless you live in 90% of the U.S. where there aren't enough people around to increase your business.

You mean the land owned by Ted Turner.

But seriously though. I'm opposed to blanket minimum wage increases. Minimum wage should be determined by the region you live in. Not based on assfuckcrazy places like Los Angeles and NYC where $15/hr will barely scrape you through the day.
