Like azuarc I was gaming prior to the 90s so I remember some of the games he listed. I also remember Kula World and Hard Drivin from the games mentioned.

As for me, Nightbreed: The Interactive Movie for the Amiga 500 (I am the creator of the sole longplay for this game on youtube)

Also Moon Patrol for the Atari 2600

We had Epic Pinball make an appearance in Best OST 3, where it shocked the world by beating Chrono Cross in round 1. (Excalibur's music was serious business.)

While we're talking shareware, here's a few other titles:

Raptor - Call of the Shadows
Dark Ages
Captain Comic (which I believe was a port from somewhere else, but I didn't know that at the time)
Tyrian (which is relatively well-known, but dearly beloved and I still have to mention)
Bouncing Babies
Test Drive

Also, let's talk classic arcade. Anyone remember Pango? I remember Pango, and I'm surprised I never hear it referenced. I thought it was right up there with Q-Bert.

A more contemporary, non-PC option that probably some people HAVE played but:

Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution

This is a fantastic game, and considering it's a GC game I don't know how it flew so under the radar - it remains probably my favorite deck building game ever, and it has a great soundtrack (I know it was in some vgmusic contests and stuff but I think I nominated it - I dunno how many people have actually played it)

For the longest time I've been trying to hunt down a PC game my cousin used to play when I was a kid. It must've been in the mid 90s, and you played as an F-zero type looking car, moving forward in 3D space like Crash Bandicoot, jumping from platform to platform and dodging pitfalls. It had crazy techno/electric rock music. It seemed kind of pixelated. It was a speedrunners game for sure, you tried to get to the end of the level as fast as you could.

If anyone could help me find this game, I would die a happy man.

So there was this math game on the school computer in kindergarten. You were an adventurer fighting your way through an evil castle. If you lost all your health, you would get captured and put in this tower in a slowly descending elevator; and you had to solve math problems as quickly as possible to get free before the elevator reached the bottom and you died.

Can't remember the name of it. It was on a big floppy disk though.

"You solved the puzzle of Pullyapantsup! You can do anything!"

The dog was, like so many dogs in video games, the best part about it.

In that vein, I have a lot of fond memories of Arcane and Steppenwolf, two flash point-click adventures by Sarbakan. Man, they were tough but so much fun. I also remember a kind-of point and click game online with the main character named Ryo or something and there were a ton of huge-breasted anime women. It might have been an H-game, but I don't think you ever actually saw anything nude. But man, I loved the music in that game.

Also Riviera was awesome.

ALSO Summon Night: Swordcraft Story. Pretty much the only dungeon crawler I love, and man do I love it to bits and pieces.

+1 for Riviera

iirc it came out late in the GBA's life and not a lot of copies were made. Definitely enjoyed the hell out of it though. And it did end up being released on PSP as well. Honestly the system of navigating the areas and using points earned in battle to investigate things was soooooo much better than running around the entire edge of every screen spamming the "interact" button like you end up doing in most RPGs.

also my old gamefaqs account and first main in WoW share a name inspired from that game (Einrose)

Riviera was amazing. It took risks and I've not seen anything else like it.

Anyways, my game is Rakugaki Showtime on the PS1. If anyone's played the less obscure Poy Poy 2, it's basically that game, except instead of running around and throwing stuff with realistic physics you're doing it in a far flashier anime version. Oh and every character is a literal hand-drawn scribble (that's what Rakugaki means: Graffiti), so its like it gives this Children's Drawing Fantasy aesthetic where all these cool and crazy characters are fighting each other. There's even a Master Hand in this game that draws the characters. And a Cloud lookalike.

Another often forgotten game is Sands of Destruction on the NDS. It is often overlooked by Radiant Historia, the *real* hidden gem of the handheld. Of course, SoD is not without its flaws such as its completely defective battle system and terrible pacing. But it's more of a game you play for the story. From the moment the story starts after the obligatory first dungeon, the game is already trying to be In Your Face by wiping out your hometown via YOUR own hands, including your benevolent mentor, your mom, and every friendly NPC in sight and it's hilariously played for laughs! It is also the only JRPG I know where every character you play is using unconventional weaponry.

But this was me owning my first computer so they seemed to have awesome atmosphere. The latter was a complete point-and-click adventure on a ship that revolves around solving puzzles. No action at all.
