I'm 29 now and I've come to the conclusion that "snob" just means you actually try to set standards for the things you like, and try to pursue better things through the course of your life. Someone calls you a snob because they're feeling defensive towards you because they haven't set those same standards.

I get that you're ok with your budweiser and that it does what you want it to do, but don't call me a fucking snob because I'd rather pay a dollar more for a better beer that's made with some degree of care.

So, back to games. I think demanding the best of the industry makes the industry better. It's lack of snobbery that makes the cancerous mobile p2w market so successful.

I think it's perfectly fine for someone to be a little bit of a snob about things they're interested in.

I just mean in general where you can't even get an answer to your question. I'm not a budweiser swilling idiot. I'm just not a snob. Especially with video games... Yes some games suck. There's a difference between being truthful and being a snob though.

What does that mean though? Like you'll play anything, or you play good games but you're not a dick about it? How are you defining snob here? Seems to me that a "snob" is often said about anyone who complains about anything.

I have no issue with someone liking or disliking a game. It's when people are snobs about it.

my two cents:

people frequently confuse "enthusiast" with "snob."

everybody who has been playing video games for 15+ years (most likely the majority of this board) should have a developed sense of what kinds of games they like, what kinds of games they don't like, and should have an understanding of what they do and do not enjoy in a video game. this makes you an enthusiast and gives you a sense of taste.

in every other category, this is obvious and expected. everyone has certain food likes, dislikes, and expectations. everyone has certain clothing likes, dislikes, and expectations (quality, fit, etc). and so on and so forth.

but for some reason, when it comes to entertainment, it is treated like a negative trait to have these same qualities. my theory is that this is how the people selling you the entertainment want you to behave (so you see every movie, listen to every song, play every game, etc), and also a lot of consumers to me seem pretty insecure about their lack of knowledge or expertise regarding their topic, and so they try to wear it like a badge of honor.

thankfully on CE I think things are more relaxed, esp when it comes to games. most users here seem to have a developed sense of taste, which is refreshing, even if i do not agree most of the time (lol)
