MK9:

+ Better characters
- no single fights against NPC

+ Shao Khan > Shinnok
- Challenge tower is eh
- Bad netcode
- Kinda lame DLC characters

MKX:

+ stage interaction is cool
- Kombat Kidz

+ Better Krypt
+ Can play as Goro
+ Graphics are better*
+ contextual brutalities and whatnot
+ Living towers are kinda cool.
+ Tons of alternate costumes.

- No tag team fights
- Variant system changes like two moves and alters the costume slightly, kinda weak.
- also bad netcode
- No robits except a DLC one who is actually 4 robits.
- Leatherface? Really?

* personally though I think MK9 has better style/aesthetic that fits with Mortal Kombat

I like MK9 better but MKX is great too.

Mk9>Mkx
I think X had smoother game play and is much faster and better looking. Mk9 had a better roster, and up until the massacre the better story. The content both games have is fantastic.

mk9 was was like a wet dream for people like me who grew up playing Mortal Kombat

mkx was fun, but the story mode was too fucking easy and not as interesting since I had no idea who half of the people are

I can't stand people like you. Stay in the 20th century if you want familiarity. New characters should always be welcomed.

I love Ferra/Torr, Erron Black, Cassie Cage, and I hope they become regular staples. And I am looking forward to Kano's son in MK11.

MK9 had a better story, except one part where it snowballs (and creates a plot hole later). You know what I am talking about

I agree that the kombat kidz were awesome, but I don't like how they took over the story. In fact, I dislike most of the story after Mileena's death because it went from an interesting civil war to Mortal Kombat's very own afterschool special.

Shinnok ruined the story and Kotal's villainy felt very forced when before he was very harsh, yet rational

I think story and returning design wise, MKX was kind of flawed, but I still enjoy it way more than MK9 and that is one of my favorite games. Variations were a good idea that I feel they realized they had to actually do for everyone, and then got very lazy and uncreative. Some characters have great variations, some don't and some variations don't even help to match a character archetype or go anywhere, giving some serious balance issues that could've been fixed if NRS knew how to support a game past two years.

And I was mixed on the designs of a lot of returning characters. Like while literally every new character was excellent and I still hold that Kitana, Mileena, and Sonya have never looked better and more interesting, I found a lot of fault and dissatisfaction in Reptile and Ermac's designs (MK9 I feel were their best looks, and I think the story based reasons for them looking like garbage here are interesting, I don't think it should result in a worse look.) and Liu Kang and Kung Lao (From colorful and fun twists on a very classic traditional look to these weird boring, pale clothes they wear.)

I don't care that it went into the future more, but that story mode was so fucking easy compared to MK9 that it was less memorable.

The story was told a lot better in 9 as well.

There was a lot of stuff that was implied that happened or briefly touched on without actually letting us play it out. IIRC the story in X was only half the length of 9's.

And its a shame cause I liked that gunslinger.
