Nah, it's more of a sickening revulsion towards people bashing a game seconds after it was announced, before anything was even known about the game, based off of little information.

It's bandwagon mentality and I've been sick of it for decades now.

Considering the entire purpose of a trailer is to sell a product, no, I don't have any revulsion towards trailers doing what trailers are supposed to do.

I do have a revulsion for complete butthurtery reinforcing bad logic and thinking though, so your post is legitimately making me queasy.

i didn't intend for this to be some "aha, gotcha!" moment, but like, your reaction to trailers is a bit questionable and framing of info re: federation force is a bit problematic. i don't really get your issue. nintendo released a trailer. in it, they provided a brief overview of what the game entails, which is commendable, because the federation force reveal offered more information than most typical reveal trailers. nintendo followed this up with a more comprehensive overview of it during the treehouse live segment. again, this is commendable: the more information we have about a game up front so we can make up our minds, the better. this is a bit of a double-edged sword, as there has been a recent phenomena of gamers' ignorance of the creative process and cutting/retooling of content leading to some hostility in certain communities, but that's a tangent and not really relevant here. how did people react to this reveal? poorly. they didn't like it. they were given ample information, and came to the conclusion that this is a bad idea. why is this a bad thing? why is the only acceptable reaction in this scenario, "cool! thanks nintendo." what's the harm here?

the game is just a bad concept all around. the 3ds is not designed for first person shooters. you need either an uncomfortable peripheral to approach, but not quite reach, usability, or you use the n3ds nub, which is not versatile enough to simulate a right stick. add in ideas nobody asked for, like co-op multiplayer campaigns and 3v3 blast ball multiplayer, to the first new game in an assumed-dead franchise, and you're just begging for bad reactions.

a confession: i have, in the past, enjoyed metroid games, since apparently that's the angle you're shooting for.
another confession: i don't care if there isn't another metroid game, and it's not because nintendo poisoned the well with two bad games.

The harm here is that the gaming fandom has become kinda prone to bandwagons to the point where there's no good faith to trust.

And that's not the only acceptable reaction. Heck, that's also a bad reaction. Judging a game to be awesome or terrible based off of the first look is, honestly, a knee-jerk reaction and often unreasonable.

The harm is when this bandwagon continues on and negatively affects the game's reception when it's finally released.

Let me give you an example of an awesome game that no one asked for and, initially, nobody cared about and nobody liked: Wind Waker. People wanted this uber realistic Zelda and were given a chibi toony Zelda. People instantly raged when the first trailer hit the screen. They felt betrayed by Nintendo. They hated Nintendo. Zelda was ruined forever, a dead series, etc. etc.

Then Windwaker came out and it was good. But if this happened in today's gaming culture, it would've only been a cult hit, because the meme of it being a bad game would have started seconds after it being announced and continued past its life span.

Just because an opinion is popular doesn't make it more correct. I acknowledge people's right to hate Federation Force based off of the game as it is, because it under-delivered, because brainwashed Samus is the final boss. But god damn, hating it and spreading rumors about it the moment it gets announced, and bashing anyone who actually does like the game is utterly shameful.
