And Zero survives ramming a shuttle into a giant space colony, causing it to explode. There is no way Zero is less durable than Mega Man here. They have equivalent feats by themselves, and lore dictates that Zero should be better in every category.

And again, you keep going back to this as a boxing match being a huge advantage for Mega Man, all because he has two punching moves, one of which is too slow to be useful. Zero is a melee fighter specialist, and I've provided MULTIPLE instances of him having punching cred, while Mega Man has very little to go on with how effective his punches are. Hard knuckle may be able to break down those destroyable walls in MM4, but a standard punch from Zero can tear through things at least 5 times as thick, and dismember his opponents, all in the span of time it takes Hard Knuckle to travel 5 feet.

The point is that mega man has a lot of advantages this is not lopsided this is close.

And in a close battle the guy who can get all the way back to full health wins.

Like you so eloquently put it - basically mega man just needs to be able to keep up to HALF of Zeros output and he wins this and i think its pretty clear that Zero is not quite that much better especially since Mega Man is not really a slouch in melee between his MvC2 moveset and his Hard Knuckle and his "one hit knockdown" move Star Uppercut which will help him win on points if it gets to that - after all even if Zero is SO TOUGH that hes only down for like 1 second it still matters for how the match is scored and mega having ranged options means Zero will have a hard time dictating how this match goes.

And one of Zero's weapons in MMX8 is literally kaiser knuckles which gives him like 6 different punching moves. And he fistfights Sigma and WINS. And punches through bases. He has MORE punching cred than Mega Man does.

The only real evidence to Mega Man's armor being inferior is in the cartoon of all things, where classic megs can't even dent Vile. Meanwhile, Mets appear in every instance of the Mega Man chronology, including the Zero series where they're specifically mentioned as "ancient", meaning that they were as-designed-by-Wily, and they do equivalent damage to Zero.

Like in-lore there's evidence for greater firepower, but not greater armor. Especially if we get into comics town where Wily creates a machine that can't be harmed in the X era pre-MM1.

None of that changes the fact that Zero can block charged X-Buster shots though. No one would argue that Mega Man has more damage output than Mega Man X.

What it does change is that means Zero isnt wasting Mega super fast.

gulf in everything is way too big. Zero'd easily punch a hole in Rock without even trying really. Rock couldn't even get a hit in. original Mega Man took place in 200X, X series begins in 21XX, which is also when he re-activates. both X and Zero were the last creations far above the originals and both meant to grow with multiple new additions. by X6 they had largely achieved that already, so add another 100 or so years for the Zero here. asking for a computer even 20 years old to match up to a modern one ain't gonna happen and the difference here is waaay more than that. Zero is pretty much meant to kill Rock in the first place so uh, that's a blue head flying off his shoulders.
