I had no interest in itat first, but my stepbrothers got it the first day we got a PS2 and I loved it. Ended up being the first game I bought when I got my own PS2 a few days later.

Yeah it was pretty fucking mind blowing at the time. I'd never played an open world style game before that.

Yeah, I played it at a friend's house back in high school. I remember being amused by just being able to carjack people out of the blue

More like the anticipation before hand. We were still playing that crummy Driver 2 game on ps1 (anyone remember that?) when my friend told me about a game his cousin was going on about. It was this amazing out of this world game where you could steal ANY car. Where you could go ANYWHERE in the city. Where you had a wanted level with stars, and if you got as many as 6, the army would be after you with TANKS!

I told him no way, he's lying his ass off like he did about having an uncle that works in Nintendo and found the triforce in the basement of hyrule.

Lo and behold when we finally tried it... oh my god. The memories. The fucking memories you guys. It's still a game unlike any other.

I recently bought it because I couldn't find my original copy, just to replay the game after... god how long has it been, 15 years at least? Christ.

I played GTA II for a bit but never played GTA again until San Andreas and that game gave me that moment.

Everyone at my school was playing GTA III though I remember that it was huge.

GTA3 was one of my top 3 favorite games of all time until like a year or two ago. I replayed it more than any other GTA and probably any other PS2 game, but I stopped replaying it more recently. Dark Souls 1 took its spot.

I was a huge fan of GTA and GTA 2 so I was super stoked for GTA III, but being only like 12 and my parents were going through financial trouble I didn't have PS2 right away.

I remember probably around April 2002 my sisters boyfriend brought his PS2 and GTAIII over so I could play GTA III while they watched Wrestlemania. I can specifically remember just entering the codes for weapons and going on a rampage on Staunton Island. Cops finally took me down just near the lift bridge to Shore Side Vale and then he had to go.

Ended up getting a summer job right after that to buy a PS2, but I ended up getting Vice City first because it was coming out in less than a month and GTA III was still full price. I just rented GTA III until Vice City came out.

Yup. Christmas day 2001. The first game I popped into my then new PS2.

I was blown away. I had hyped it up in my head in the months leading up to it, and it lived up to it.

To make things worse my parents very poorly hid it in the basement in November so I knew about it more than a month before Christmas. It was in the house with me but I couldn't play it. Torture!

I never played it. I don't play games that Satan has created to tempt us.

I spent way more time at first than I should have trying to fly from the 2nd island to the 3rd in a tank. I could have just done the missions and gotten there faster.

Absolutely. I was 18 when it released. I purchased it and a group of 4/5 of us went back to my house and just passed the controller around for hours. We continued to do this a few times a week for probably two years.

I remember I had GTA London on PS1, and it was really stupid because for some reason they decided to treat it as an expansion pack rather than a standalone game, which meant you had to start the system with GTA London in the drive, then swap the disc with GTA1 when it told you to, then swap back to the GTA London disc. There didn't seem to be any actual point to doing it this way.
