Wow, missed all this, but glad your feeling better.

Not understanding what other people are saying could be a blessing sometimes though, but yeah, scary.

Hope it was just a one time thing.

It was honestly the most frighteningly lonely sensation I have ever felt, my wife was right next to me but it was like there was this massive gap between us. At least we could text each other

While it was happening the first thing that went through my mind was the feeling that I don't actually belong here and now I have forgotten the language of this place. Mind boggling.

So what were the test results?
Was it a mild stroke?

Glad you are feeling better now, but take it easy, maybe take Monday off

Continue to follow up on this with a neurologist. My daughter suffered an AVM rupture just over a year ago.

Test results all came back as good as they could have. I wasn't even dehydrated. They ruled out a stroke and said there were no signs of a bleed or a tumor.

It is still scary, gotta do some follow ups, but at the moment things seem alright

Sounds like it could be a migraine. Does your family have a history of them?

Want to chime in to say I had similar symptoms happen (transient aphasia) and my neurologist thought they were either odd migraine symptoms or odd seizures, but eventually things resolved themselves

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2117813/

Transient aphasia is a thing for some migraine sufferers

Aww. it's not easy. The texting thing is good.

One of my common migraine symptoms is grabbing for words and falling short. When that happens I know it's coming. I don't get the full on aphasia any more but I do still struggle to verbally communicate and comprehend people when in a migraine aura. Yesterday one started when i was out buying groceries and thank goodness it's easy to just go through the motions of talking to a cashier. I can still read and write but avoid the screens on a migraine.

it also lasts longer than a typical aura/migraine would even with medication.

Defs follow up with a neurologist to be sure. Your lack of lesions is a really good thing though!

This sounded like a terrifying event and I'm glad you are better now. I hope very much that your doctors can find out what happened. Not having an answer as to why can be scary too.

I forgot I posted in this topic, and wanted to follow up. Definitely speak to a neurologist, especially if you have chronic migraines (and haven't spoken to one already).

When I get a migraine oncoming, I get the opposite of what happened to you. I'm unable to comprehend written word instead of vocal. It's super weird.

Yo check your house for mold. I used to have seizures that messed with my speech in a similar way but it also impacted my writing too. They'd happen randomly every month or so and all be isolated to one day. When lasted about 5 minutes and I couldn't understand speech. When I tried to talk it also came out as complete gibberish. Doctors did brain scans and couldn't find anything but it turns out I was sleeping on an old moldy pillow and they stopped when I threw it away.

So yeah maybe it's mold.
