But it's like equally "cult of the new" forgetting about games a couple months old, but as much and having dead forums as it is "cult of the old" where it worships old stuff even if it was just average for a good game.

This is what happens to literally any consumable product (yes people consume the information from media) once it goes mainstream as the general public is completely moronic and only cares about the cool shiny new thing since they are physically incapable of having their neurons fire beyond that pleasure trigger.

When people complained about casuals ruining gaming we were also warning people about what the media would turn into.

How did us hardcore gamers see this coming? ITS HAPPENED BEFORE EXACTLY THE SAME WAY!!! But of course modern western culture teaches you your elders are all racist senile idiots longing for nostalgia constantly and don't like change so you should never listen to them unless they agree with what the young people are saying.

The "cult of the old" crowd are literally just reactionaries seeing their beloved medium being spread out and used in ways that obfuscate what games used to be like before people were obsessed with doing something different for the sake of it being different.
