Moving from SLC to Nashville in a week, with pets. I'm driving my car and getting the uBox to ship my stuff-
just curious if anyone had some advice that could help with the transition since I'm uprooting my life.

If you're buying, have a mortgage lined up BEFORE you move

Take only what you absolutely need and want. If you need to replace crappy furniture, grocery, etc. get it at the new place.

Sell as much of your goods before you move; this will cut down on the cost of moving that other crap and offset the expense that is moving

@SamsungGearS2 I voted to take my crappy furniture cuz it wouldn't earn me enough to even buy half of it back. I paid a lot for the pod, but at the end of the day there's no way I'd ever cut down on my possessions enough to not have to rent something, so I just figured fuck it.
Why do you say that about the mortagage? cuz you have proof of a job and such?

Why do you say that about the mortagage?

So you have a place to live, so you know what you can get approved for, so you don't have to bounce around town for weeks, so you can get familiar with the housing market in your area, etc.

I thought it was kind of obvious that when you move, you have some sort of housing lined up before you move, even if it is an extended stay hotel, but whatever.

I did kinda the same thing as TC and yah, I had 2 weeks at an extended stay thing lined up, then I did a couple weeks with family and then about a month in a hotel waiting for a couple paychecks to get an apartment.

Just make sure you do your research, look for apartments, hotels, the better parts of town. Shit like that. If you already have a job lined up make sure to have them print off something saying you're working and how much you're making so it'll be easier to get a place.

If you don't have a job lined up, find something easy and part time so you can make some money while looking for a job.

I mean well yeah, have something lined up is obvious. I've never bought a house but was looking into it- figured I wanted to get a feel for the city and such first though so did a short lease....

I have a second interview lined up for right when i get there, so that's nice. Figured my finances out and if I don't have something promising figured out in a month I'll grab a serving job... Definitely would help so much to have something right when I get there..
