I have autism and schizophrenia supposedly and the pills are supposed to help me talk to people but they don't.
Or something idk what they do tbh. I was eligible for SS but chose to get a job instead. Part time but hopefully it goes full time.

Given how low the bar is for SSI, even I could probably qualify for it if I didn't want to work.

ICOYAR chose SSI over a job.

But, according to Ico, he has no choice in the matter because he has no car or he'd get a job. And a car is a necessity because, besides the roving street gangs that are out to accost any pedestrian, there are also packs of feral lesbians that are set loose every night by Wellesley. And, you know, his body frame isn't exactly the most masculine which makes him even more of a target.

And because both of his parents work 24 hours a day and never return home to lie unconscious for 8 hours every night, he's unable to borrow their car. And because a cheap car can be had for a couple thousand dollars, he still doesn't get enough free money every month to afford that and his new PS4 Pro, new UHDTV, Xbox One S, Nintendo Switch, stacks of games, Paul McCartney tickets, and a $1300 gaming laptop that was a requirement to write code.

Good for you. I have bipolar disorder but I have a job. I've been sick lately and being at home all day would be insanely boring, I'm insanely bored right now.

Nice bipolar seems like it would be one of the harder ones to do a job with. Great for you as well.

He's defrauding the government though. He's supposed to be using his free money for food, housing, and utilities, but he's inadvertently admitted to not be doing so.

I've never looked into SSI that closely, but it is really that easy to get? I never seem to luck out, when it comes to applying for jobs. And any jobs I've ever gotten, seem to be short lived. Or a tease if you count all the times I interview for jobs once, falsely getting my hopes up I did well in the interview for that position, and never hearing back from the places ever again. :(

A friend of mine does get SSI, so sometimes in the back of my mind I've wondered if I should apply for that. I think the only rule if you get such income, is that it limits how many hours you can work. I've sometimes wondered if I should bike for Uber Eats, since I have a bike and I was surprised to learn that you could bike besides drive, if you did Uber Eats deliveries. If I owned a car, I would probably apply for Uber or Lyft to drive for sure.

Good for you TC. >__>b
I had several surgeries starting around the age of fifteen and had a stroke after one of them, yet I still chose to finish high school while recovering. I even went to college and medical school, as the choice felt far more respectable than sitting around and feeling sorry for myself, collecting SSDI.

I'd rather not do SSDI, to be honest. I just wish my parents were more supportive of me, since whenever I try to do things for myself, they sometimes are reluctant and (pathetically) dismiss ideas I was seriously looking into(I.e. plumbing apprenticeship programs that one local union does, veterinary assistant training program at this one community college, etc). Long story short(though it sounds weird), I think my parents too much hold it against me that I dropped out of a 4 year college where I thought things would work out for me about a decade ago. :( And I really wish they'd stop poo-pooing and dismissing decent ideas for career training programs, I read up about online.

I really do try to pursue things and look into possible career training programs, but don't like how I wish they'd support me more. There are a lot of things I've thought about, and I'm sure eventually I'll get my life onto more of that track. Honestly I'd rather find my way into some sort of reliable career(even if it wasn't the highest ever paying job), over SSDI. Since I don't want to be stuck in this same rut without a decent career, forever. And I know my parents can't support me forever....

What's important is that your trying.. So don't let them drag you down, start seeing it more as motivation. Motivation to escape, and hopefully to be a more improved/attentive parent to your own children. >__>b
And in the end, your parents likely aren't bad people, more likely they're feeling their age, over-worked and burned out on life in general lol.

As a functioning, intelligent person, you're better off finding employment than trying to get SSI. And I'm pretty sure if you're able to hold down any kind of work, it hurts your SSI prospects. SSI is really intended more for people who can't work at all. And the bar *is* pretty low, since a doctor's note for anxiety issues can get you on it afaik.
