of a friend of mines.

Now before I begin if I figured there was no chance of this happening I wouldnt bother.

So one of my favorite drummers, "the octcopus" Damon Che of the highly technical instrumental "math rock" band Don Caballero.

I was listening to an interview he gave a month or so ago on a drumming website, where he mentioned he hasnt drummed regularly in years(5-10), and is trying to get back into it I think. He said he has done some session work recently, and added "I am down for session work...so long as you can come to Pittsburgh"

So, I live here. He drives a taxi now to make ends meet, doesnt seem like he's asking for huge session work with mega bands or anything, seems like he's willing to be a rent a drummer.

I have three friends who have some musical background. one went to a premier school(Carnegie Mellon) for vocal training but didnt graduate, one went to a premier school(berklee) for classical music composition(i think) and the third graduated from CMU but not for music, he got a stem degree but has played in local bands and such. They want to get together and jam in august(one lives in Michigan, all the others are here). I figure its worth a shot to throw a line out to Damon(though he left no contact info in the interview and he has no website of his own unless he runs the don cab FB and bandcamp pages).

So I might try to contact the services of an extremely technically proficient drummer who could(back in the day, idk about now) drum circles around almost anybody.

Worth a shot, doesnt seem like he wants mega professional work...I dont know. doesnt hurt to try, especially since he advertised himself and shit i live where he does.

Here is a story from Damon in the interview about his last(or one of his last) shows in the mid 00s.

It was in spain. Larger crowd at a festival. He was confused and annoyed because inbetween each song the audience never clapped or made much noise. even during his music there wasnt much emotion. he was sure they hated him. however, when he was actually finished, he realized they saved it all for the end as the crowd was going insane. As soon as he began to take a bow the stage curtain fell right in front of his face.

He was thinking of going on hiatus around then anyways but he took this as a sign.
