I've had the exact same issue happen with a keyboard before. It was a nice Razer one too :(

nope. i even went so far as to delete razer synapse and uninstall everything related to it just in case.

plugged it into my laptop, does it there, too.

well either the A key (the external plastic button) is pressing the Z key with it, or else the A path is shorting into the Z path. most likely something sticky is connecting the A key to the Z key.

if you've taken it apart, I would try pressing one of the metal connectors onto the A circuit and see what happens. also, put the plastic pad into the top half of the keyboard and try pressing the key and observe what happens with the button from underneath (probably has to be done upside down).

now tell me how to do that on a mechanical keyboard

i'm not entirely sure if i can replace the switches myself. i know on some you can, but i don't think razer likes that

I was gonna say, "unless you have a mechanical keyboard, which you probably do, in which case I'm less familiar with how they work" 8)

still, it must have *something* to do with the A key pressing the Z key, either internally or externally.

the last time this happened it was a membrane keyboard, and i was able to follow the traces and see if there was anything wrong with them. the was a little scorch mark that connected the a and z trace on the backside of the film, which is why it happened there

but on this keyboard, it's switches and circuit boards

well there still has to be an electrical connection from A to some controller and from Z to the same controller, and they will be right next to each other, very easy to short together. or it's the A key itself pressing Z's circuit somehow. (A is pressing Z either way, just a question of whether it's the switch or a short, or sticky glue between the buttons, etc.)

are you able to look under the switches at the circuit board? most images I find just show the switches from the outside with the inside of the keyboard unavailable.

i can look at the backside of the board, which looks fine, the front with the switches has this green plate over it, the backlighting, i'm not super sure how to remove that
