Ha! Maybe not. I dig it in some games, though. I actually enjoyed it in Twilight Princess and Wind Waker and Dragon Age Inquisition, but those games are really scenic and stuff, and it isn't the main drive.

I don't see the value of this item, but whatever.

Found a room that I obviously need a lava-proof suit to go through.

I never understood that I was supposed to walk jump out of that pit room as a youngster, despite the well-designed hint.

I remember instead spending 20 minutes running from the the previous room's tiny platform into the pit room and doing a running jump and morph balling at the top to clear it by pixels. Still haven't wall-jumped to this day.

11/10 game though. Masterpiece.

Continued playing, made it to Phantoom in the Wrecked Ship, but I hadn't saved in a while because the WS save point didn't work, and when I lost I lost like twenty minutes of progress. Gave up for now, will continue later.

Wall jumping feels way harder in ZM to me than SM. SM is floater and lower framerrate and you get like 2 frames after pushing off the wall to jump, it's so easy.

Phantoom was almost too easy with the spin trick. Felt kind of unfair, in fact.

Got the gravity suit, I can see how this will make the water area easy. Is the water area doable without it? And does it let you go through lava?

Found a missile upgrade in a weird area. It's inside of an area in the water level and can only be accessed by speed boosting through two blocks underneath it, but the area it's inside is above the ground. Tried and failed to get it, giving up now.

Oh, those challenges for 100%. I only got good with Wall Jumps to attempt that after playing Super Mario 64.

Noticed how outside the gaming news I am now... but just to see a Metroid 2 remake and a Prime 4 in the works makes me happy that Nintendo isn't shafting Metroid like Capcom with Mega Man.

That's super impressive you found out about power bombing the tube to get to Maridia's main entrance so fast. I figured you'd definitely get stuck there.

Also, regarding the Draygon the boss of Maridia there's a super cool trick where you can shoot missiles at the turret things, let Draygon grab you, then grapple the exposed electric frying yourself and him. It's awesome.

The tube bomb just seemed kind of obvious to me. I actually wasted like twenty missiles and ten super missiles trying to break it that way before I got the power bombs.

Yeah I never had a problem with it but I know a lot of people get stuck there. If you go into Maridia from the Wrecked Ship instead of the tube you end up coming across a blown up tube just like the one by Brinstar anyway which is supposed to be the hint.

That's a terrible hint.

Ridley beaten. For reference, it took me all 40 super missiles, 104 normal missiles, and nine energy tanks. I guess I suck!

Got 125 missiles, 34 super missiles, 40 power bombs, and all upgrades. I'm using the wave beam instead of the spazer. Let's do this.

well, super metroid is a game where you can collect based on your needs. good players might get 500 energy, 80 missiles and 20 super missiles. beginners might get 1200 energy, 200 missiles and 40 supers. if you have a full arsenal, it's not too tough.

Rock solid game. It feels like a childhood classic despite my never playing it before.

Should I play another 2D Metroid? I've heard Zero Mission is good.

I really like Fusion a lot though it's less exploration-focused (still does the small-scale room exploration really well, but isn't about the large-scale); best action gameplay in the series. Zero Mission is also a very solid game.

Fusion is a cool survival horror game made to look like a Metroid game. It's linear, but you often go so far off of what the map is showing you that you won't really realize it your first playthrough.

Zero Mission is cool. It's somewhat similar to Super Metroid with less floaty controls. Some people like that, I don't. I would highly recommend Zero Mission if I didn't despise the last 1/3 of the game where the level design goes to absolute shit. I don't mind the idea behind Chozodia with the stealth, but holy crap is it some atrocious and bland level design.

I would get both. I love both games but find one more frustrating than the other. One thing to keep in mind, people complained that Metroid Fusion didn't follow the 'Metroid formula'. There was no 'Metroid formula' when the game came out. Metroid 1 you can literally go anywhere as soon as you get the bombs and missiles and it isn't sequence breaking. It is the epitome of an open ended Metroid game. Metroid 2 you just keep going down a linear shaft and branching off into different small areas to kill all the Metroids there. Super Metroid is Super Metroid and established the formula that pretty much every other Metroidvania apes. But, the thing is, the Metroid series itself wasn't confined by it at that point in history. Try keeping that in mind when you play Fusion.

Fusion is super badass and has easily the best graphics and atmosphere and such on GBA. It really just is less replayable due to the railroading and nerfed movement (wall jumps and bomb jumps) to limit sequence breaking. The first playthrough is still amazing though since you don't need any of that stuff.

But for replayability, ZM is still the best. It's sooooo fast and smooth and streamlined. Maybe less nuanced than SM, but it's worth it to trim all the fat. The last 1/3rd is actually really awesome too once you get good at it (pretty miserable first time).
