as someone who lives in socal most Mexicans dont have this mentality. even if they dont speak English well they try to learn and communicate as best they can.

that also being said they have always lived in this region of the country so its kind of stupid not to be able to speak some basic Spanish.

It's a funny double standard.

There are areas in PA where you still find old people who ONLY speak German. Nobody bats an eyelash. Some of the Amish people speak mostly their own dialect too, nobody bats an eyelash. But say "hola" and suddenly the anger of thousands of conservatrolls rains on that person.

I think I remember them talking s*** about me in Spanish after that, which was probably deserved. I had no couth.

that doesn't make much sense to me... Germany is a random place for them to end, IMO, it's sort of like discovering there'd an American diner in the middle of Nepal, wouldn't we be curious about how that came to be?

Maybe they had a chip on their shoulder? I don't think you did anything wrong :/

Hm cool! Doesn't seem to far away from Stuttgart where my sister lives. Closest I was there was probably Heidelberg, which was one of my favorite places I visited. So was Freiburg and the Black Forest.

Can't wait to go back; maybe i'll go check out the Mexican restaurant (only) in Germany too!

Those are extremely, extremely isolated communities. The vast majority of Americans have probably never encountered a native German speaker in their lives. Nobody bats an eyelash because they generally don't interact with the surrounding society. Almost no one here has to put up with someone who refuses speak anything but German. You're trying way too hard to find the tiniest sliver of hypocrisy.

Those are extremely, extremely isolated communities. The vast majority of Americans have probably never encountered a native German speaker in their lives. Nobody bats an eyelash because they generally don't interact with the surrounding society. Almost no one here has to put up with someone who refuses speak anything but German. You're trying way too hard to find the tiniest sliver of hypocrisy.

These cases are so damn isolated I live in Albany NY and I still know about them. LMAO

They don't have an issue because the language is German or Dutch and not Spanish.

I've seen people putting Irish flags on their lawn in St Patty's. Try putting a Mexican flag and watch MAGA people burn the house LOL.

Is that really a good example, though? The Amish just keep to themselves, for the most part. Do they even vote in significant numbers? I don't think the Amish are projected to outpace any other groups in terms of birth rates any time soon, and I'm pretty sure they aren't supporting mass immigrations of undocumented German natives.
