i lost power for five minutes this morning while my PS4 was in rest mode and now it won't start and is asking for me to plug in a USB device with the most recent firmware update. And apparently I'm gonna lose all my data?

1. I don't have a fucking flash drive
2. So I just lost all my saved data? Are you fucking kidding me?

Only if you have playstion plus. Which I don't because the free games are always trash and most of the multiplayer games I play are on Xbox.

Strange. With power cuts it normally just gives me a warning message that the console wasn't turned off right, rebuilds the database and is back to normal. Have you tried holding down the power button until it beeps twince and goes into 'safe mode' and then selecting rebuild database?

Actually it isn't. You're still connected online, use voice chat and other features. You just can't play multiplayer and that's fine for people who just play single player games like myself. Some of the PS4s best games are single player only. Persona 5, Witcher 3 and Horizon all come to mind. Why would I need plus to play those?

Try rebuilding the database while in safe mode. If that doesn't work then I don't know.

It does the same thing as when I start it, gets to 60%, jumps to 100 and then just says it can't start.

Stab in the dark but perhaps your HDD is fucked. Then again perhaps calling Sony is the only option. They may fix it for free.

I had a similar issue a couple of months ago. Unplugged everything, waited a few minutes, plugged everything back in and then it fired right up. Never had an issue since.

Yeah it is. Everyone loves to argue that it's some kind of flawless design though. The controller has no battery life because of the giant flashlight on the end of it, the usb ports are trapped between two bars, limiting their usefulness, and the cooling system is a complete embarrassment.

To be fair having your PS4 in rest mode is putting it at risk incase a power cut does happen. I've never bothered using rest mode. Anyway have you tried going though all the options in safe mode? Anything is worth a shot.

I find the constant crashes to be more hilarious shitty, Like BOIII for example, it crashed often at the start, few months later, it stopped doing it and hardly ever did it, recently, I can hardly do ANYTHING in BOIII, unless it's done slowly, without it wanting to crash.

Not the only game either, AC Syndicate, Just Cause 3, Did it a couple times during Fallout 4, It's infuriating when it happens, Especially since I couldn't finish AC Syndicate, or even play JC3 BECAUSE of it crashing 24/7.....
