Don't video games already make more money than movies?

I think one could make a strong case that whatever makes the most money is the most popular.

It's hard to have a shared global experience with a game, so... No.

It's like trying to unite people over the same show except everybody's on a different episode and lots of people use unorthodox viewing orders.

If we get to a point in which we can have affordable VR in our households with little health and safety concerns then maybe it'd happen.

It might never happen. The barrier to entry for gaming is much higher than it is for movies. A movie ticket costs less than most games, doesn't require any special equipment, and doesn't require a particular skill set.

And I'm well aware the game industry makes more money, but its unit sales are way less than ticket sales. It's clear there are more people going to movies.

I would argue that they're already as popular and consumed by as many ppl but don;t have the social recognition.
Do you know anyone that doesn't play some kind of game on PC, console, phone, social media etc?
If everyone actually took stock of their gaming, they'd realize it's already just as popular.

Is it weighted by time? Because I'm pretty sure I spend more time on video games than 10 normal people spend on movies.

$10 movie ticket many people buy vs $60 video game for mathematical purposes let's say movie and video game make $60,000,000

That would be 6 million people bought a game

And 60 million watched a movie.

The movie would be more popular

The differing values of movie tickets and the depreciating value of games make them hard to compare.

Id say games will surpass movies in 30 years unless movies are adapted to vr and vr becones cheaper
