Cybat: I guess we'll have to wait for Ultra Sun/Moon to find out what this thing's deal is. But it's clearly a Digimon.

Ermine: All of the Ultra Beasts are terrible and a complete waste of space, except for MAYBE Necrozma.

Luster Soldier: The Ultra Beast that's not actually an Ultra Beast. Yep, despite a design that had most people convinced it was an Ultra Beast when all of the remaining Pokemon were revealed in the demo datamine, it ends up being a regular Pokemon (a legendary, though). Necrozma was thought to be the third legendary counterpart to Solgaleo and Lunala, and this appears to have been confirmed with the reveal of Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon. In a somewhat similar manner to Kyurem, it seems like Necrozma will be able to fuse with either Solgaleo or Lunala.

ctes: Necrozma is so utterly boring and pointless. It will probably help it a lot that Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are coming. It appears it will get some forms with the cover legendaries, but we're doing the ranking now, and right now it's trash. It's so weird how you randomly find it at Ten Carat Hill. It's mono-psychic and phychic has been used for legendaries way too many times by now, not to mention its a bad typing today. It has just about no coverage as well. It's completely walled by any dark types with its only niche in stored power being gone when baton pass was banned. It also doesn't look interesting.

Inviso: Generic legendary? Check. Generic pure Psychic typing that's been used SO MANY times before? Check. This thing is pointless.

I look at this and go 'hey that kind of looks like nothing' like my eyes are playing some kind of trick on me. doesn't really speak well of the stuff lower than it on the list although overall it's not like necrozma SUCKS I just don't really understand the whole feel of what they're trying to do other than 'oh sick pseudo-legendary dude' eh whatever

Raka_Putra: I didn't know Crabrawler had an evolution until like after Elite 4 lol. Not very exciting Pokemon but I used him a faira amount.

Inviso: Ice/Fighting is a unique combination of a favorite typing of mine (Fighting) and an underrepresented typing (Ice) combined into a solid fighter. I'm perfectly sold on this dude.

mnkboy907: My goodness, how can an Ice/Fighting type be such a let down in battle? Would it really have killed GameFreak to give it at least one of Ice Shard/Mach Punch? Still a good concept and design, aside from the dumb haircut.

StifledSilence: This should be the name of a restaurant in Maryland.

Luster Soldier: Ignoring the Alolan Forms, this was the only new Ice type Pokemon we got this generation from the main Gen VII Pokemon. The Ice type really got shafted hard this generation.

PrinceKaro: This creature has buzzsaws on its boxing gloves. Congratulations Fighter, someone thought up a weapon more fucking stupid than swordchuckus.

ctes: Crabominable is a complete abomination. It's horrendously bad lookingly looking to begin with. It's insane how awful you can make a design every now and then. It doesn't even end there. This thing is utter trash. You get this thing ridiculously late in the game. There is a point where you think Game Freak sometimes decides to make bad decisions to assure they have things to improve on in the future. It matters s*** that it makes sense how it gains its ice type at Mount Lanakila, when they decided to make that the very last place you get to, then the idea of this evolution should be out the window. Fighting/Ice, while unique, is also a pretty bad typing. This Pokemon is not worth the wait in the slightest.

OrangeCrush: Truly a crabomination.

Brayze_II: I decided to breed one of these on a lark and wound up with a perfect shiny one, which is sort of like winning a curling iron as a door prize. Two things I’m never going to use that are pointless to bring to a pokemon battle.

Cybat: What the hell were they thinking with this thing. You get access to Crabrawler so early but then you can't evolve him until the very end of the game? And when you do he LOSES SPEED?! (And, as a bonus, looks like a doofus)

I should point out that in my playthrough I treated Crabominable as a trade evolution. Waiting that long is dumb when I knew I could just trade it to someone further along and have them evolve it for me and trade back. I did it around level 36 or so, when it learned Crabhammer or something and would've immediately been able to learn Ice Hammer upon evolution (though I think it turned out I needed the person to use the move relearner anyway?).

hotdogturtle: This Pokemon is literally a katamari, of course it's my favorite. Plus it comes in 8 nice colors (though I'm disappointed that there's no real red for Miso)

Cybat: Yet another single-stage Pokemon with not quite enough to be useful by itself. Its fun concept, face, and different colors give this thing a surprising amount of functionality; too bad it can't capitalize on it with better stats.

Raka_Putra: Why isn't it called Maxiand?

swordz9: Better than Solrock and Lunatone

Luster Soldier: Another Pokemon with a in-battle form changing ability. The form that Minior has above 50% HP is nothing special in terms of design, but it loses its outer shell once it goes below 50% HP. The loss of the outer shell reveals a Pokemon that looks cute and the inner core can be one of 7 different colors. The base stats also change upon losing the other shell, turning it from a defensive Pokemon to offensive Pokemon. Catching a Minior in-game can be a challenge, since it can use Self-Destruct. This can be a problem if you were able to encounter a shiny in the wild.

Inviso: Would be better if it was just core form all the time, but it's still pretty fast at least.

Paratroopa1: well this guy's pretty rad until the armor comes off and then it's downhill from there. dunno what the deal is with his pasted on face there. what's your favorite flavor mine is GRAPE

ctes: Minior sucks honestly. First of all, there is absolutely no reason to have that many colors. And I think they went overboard with changing forms and stuff upon reaching a certain percentage of HP. The core has a nice statdistribution compared to the stall, but it's pretty hard to control, making it pointless. Aegislash has King's Shield, a very nice way to switch between forms. Minior has certain circumstances, it's just stupid and annoying and they should really cut down on these trash gimmicks.

StifledSilence: I've heard of a pink sock, but not a pink rock.

I literally didn't know that Minior had different colors. Just goes to show how many of the Gen 7 Pokemon you don't get too face that many times!

OrangeCrush: As a whole I'm not a huge fan of Gen 7's new Pokemon, but Gamefreak struck it out of the park with the Ultra Beasts. They have great Lovecraftian designs as well as interesting typing and stats. Nihilego, Pheromosa, and Xurkitree stand out the most to me, partially because Lillie, Lusamine, and mah boi Guzma resemble them respectively, and that that was probably Lusamine's intention. And of those 3, Pheromosa is the funnest to use in battle.

Luster Soldier: Despite being the most feminine looking Ultra Beast, it's actually not winning the rule 34 battle among the other Ultra Beasts. It has the second most rule 34 out of the Ultra Beasts, with only Nihilego having even more rule 34 than Pheromosa. The only reason Nihilego has more rule 34 than Pheromosa is because of Lusamine and the role she has in the story (which I won't go into detail here).

This Ultra Beast was the most controversial one after the Gen VII metagame began on Smogon. The extremely high speed made it difficult to outspeed Pheromosa, generally requiring a Choice Scarfer and that might not be enough speed if Pheromosa has already picked up a speed boost from the Beast Boost ability. With access to U-turn, it can escape from unfavorable match-ups. Although priority is Pheromosa's biggest weakness, this can be neutralized with Psychic Terrain support from Tapu Lele. All of this led to calls for a quick ban from OU. A suspect test was later hosted, with the end result of Pheromosa getting banned from OU and banished to Ubers.

ctes: Phermosa is really simple and threatening by a design. It's also insanely threatening with its extremely stat distribution that also kicked it forever out of OU. I really do like how it looks. My favorite Ultra Beasts is not this, but it's a very close second!

Cybat: Apt name. Man is this thing weird - it looks like it should be a Star Wars species or something. Which I guess was the point.

Luster Soldier: I consider this the weakest member of the Tapus, at least in terms of design compared to the 3 other Tapus. Tapu Koko has the cool factor going for it, and I love Tapu Lele and Tapu Fini for being cute/feminine. No idea where Tapu Bulu fits in among the other 3 Tapus. It's got a chance of finishing above the 2 feminine Tapus just because people usually hate feminine Pokemon with relatively few exceptions, but it's got no chance against Tapu Koko.

ctes: Tapu Bulu does look interesting, but among four cool guardians, it's the one I like the least. Grassy Terrain isn't too great and Grass / Fairy is definiely the least cool of the four, not only because it's the only one that comes with a double weakness. Still, Tapu Bulu is a cool Pokemon even if outclasses by its co-guardians.

swordz9: The one nobody cares about in the group

Cybat: It's a weird looking bull wearing a giant flower sombrero. And Grassy Terrain is probably the worst of the four terrains. I do always appreciate grass legendaries though.

Inviso: The most forgettable Tapu for me. It's just generic for a legendary.

Ermine: A shame all of the Tapus are awful except for Koko.

Paratroopa1: yeah the other tapus kind of fucking own and then there's this guy who's like... I dunno he's fine but I can't really make sense of his geometry he's got a weird situation going maybe I'm being too harsh

XIII: Loyalty to Pokemon I use. It's pretty fun, but lacks real offensive bite. Still, enjoyable and I like a good signature move.

Raka_Putra: Heck yeah time to put dominatrix in a game meant for children

ctes: Tsareena is pretty great. A decent team choice if you're not using Decidueye, which is easily the best grass type. It looks slightly weird, but its design works. It's got a decent stat distribution. While its speed stat is nothing to brag about, it still outclasses way too much of the generation with it. It can hit super hard and can take hits too. It's a bit weird that they made it mono-grass, when it seems like it could've been fighting. It's high jump kick could've been quite devastating if it was 1.5x of what it is now. Regardless, it's a pretty good Pokemon.

Luster Soldier: Grass type seems to have an unusually high number of feminine looking Pokemon for some reason. Tsareena is another Pokemon in a fairly good sized list of feminine Grass type Pokemon. Although I like this Pokemon, it does some issues preventing it from being much higher on my list (at least in the top 20). In the design of this Pokemon, the upper body looks rather awkward compared to the lower body. The face looks quite odd as well, as I'd assume it has a mouth, except that it appears to be hidden from view due to the way the Pokemon was designed. Unlike Lurantis, at least Tsareena get the better raw deal among the 2 new feminine Grass types introduced this generation. Tsareena received better stats, movepool, and ability compared to what Lurantis got.

mnkboy907: It's no Lilligant, that's for sure. It's still good, but like Solgaleo, there's something holding it back. I think it's just the art style. My first bred shiny of Gen VII, too.

Competitive viability hasn't seemed to matter much at all. Magearna did much worse in these rankings than Pheromosa.

Although I wonder if it would have mattered a lot more if PRBL happened before this ranking project.

I don't think that Pheromosa is implied to do the same kind of rapey thing that Salazzle does. Sure, it has "pheromone" portmanteaued in the name, but nothing implies it does anything... "weird" like Salazzle's pre-release lore does.

I think PRBL might have had the opposite on Pheromosa just because it's one of those Pokemon that can frequently win the entire match for whichever player has it in that format.

I still like it anyways, but it's kind of bad for the format imo. Though, I guess I could see Pheromosa getting significantly weaker as they add more tiers and level up the garbage pokemon, so who knows.

Only way to put that theory to the test is for the Gen VIII ranking project to happen after one season of PRBL has already taken place.
