Current Events > Scenario: Aliens land in Russia or North Korea.

This is something I've always found interesting but Sci-fi tends to skip over, is the idea of how other nations would respond to first contact. In most stories aliens land in America and "Earthlings" become one lump of people.

Only sci-fi I can even think of that addresses this was like 2 throwaway lines in Star Trek Enterprise.

But what if Aliens come to Earth, highly advanced, far beyond our technological level, with a much deeper understanding of science, far stronger and more intelligent than us and harder to kill than Arnold Schwarzenegger in an action movie.

But then these aliens don't land in America, they don't meet with the president. Instead they land in China or Russia or Iran or North Korea or Wales or Yemen.

Now Putin and Russian officials are having diplomatic first contact meetings with these aliens who could turn the US into soup with their advanced ships alone in orbit if they desired and there's not really much of a thing we could do to stop them.

How would you react? Not only to the knowledge that we are not alone in the universe, but that the aliens are talking to your neighbors, not you.

Also how do you think your nation's goverment would react?

I feel like if we were advanced enough to visit other planets, we'd be sure to watch their media and follow their current events well enough to get an idea of them.
I think we'd also try and talk to multiple countries so as to get a better picture of them as a whole.

So i'd hope they were like that

You're thinking like a human going to meet other humans.

But even if they are like us and think like us and have societies like us, wouldn't that just make you nervous that they are NOT doing that? And just went to Ghana without talking to the US?

What if Ancient Aliens is true? I saw an episode about Russia and they thought there was an ancient space port in the Ural Mountains. So like what if those aliens return and they just want to use their old space port and that's the only reason Russia gets first contact?

Aliens land in America all the time. Just ask the people in the south.

I forget the name of the movie right now but it had aliens sending their artifacts to different countries and each country was essentially competing against one another to figure out what the artifact was and how to make contact with the aliens

Regardless of how different aliens might be to us, I would think that, as a sentient species on the top of their own food chain, they would have the same reasons for exploring the depths of space that we do -- to locate resources, colonize other planets, and discover alien life -- advanced or not.

Now, I truly believe that for a species like ourselves, if we're to have any hope of advancing to the point where we can easily traverse the cosmos, we would need to evolve past our need for religion and cultural barriers and work together to achieve it.

Assuming that these aliens went through similar cultural and technological evolution to get to where they are, I would think that, from their perspective, we look like a primitive species still killing each other over non-existent deities and ignoring the warnings of our intellectuals.

Regardless of where they decided to land, I truly believe they would inevitably make earth their planet, and if we posed a potential threat, they would get rid of us, or at the very least make us second class citizens.

Take the diplomatic route, try to work with them, adapt to their culture.

Because let's face it, if they have the tech to get to earth, they have the tech to wipe us out in a heartbeat if we try to fight back.

Of course, if diplomacy wasn't on the table, then I'd want us all to go down fighting.
