I have a preference to play my games on console. I actually have a fair bit of repeats between my PC and console libraries. I don't even care if the game looks better / has mods on PC, I'll still play on console if given the chance. Still hunting for some XBox releases.

Console. Never been much for PC gaming. At this point I'm just more comfortable on a console. I like the ease and convenience of them. Although PCs are way more user-friendly these days than when I was a kid.

Never cared for mods, and graphics are cool but we're increasingly seeing diminishing returns there. I guess better framerate would be the only major appeal for me on PC.

I enjoy console setup much more. I'd rather be able to sink into my comfortable couch, kick my feet up on the coffee table, and enjoy the visual and audio appeal of a television, rather than be hunched over in a desk chair with my wrists straining from hours of being on a keyboard with my eyes bloodshot from being so close to a small screen.

Also sex is enjoyable for a while, but let's be realistic here - it's much easier to marathon video games than it is to marathon sex.

No different then a console. Pretty much every PC nowadays has HDMI out, so all you need is an HDMI cable and you are good to go. The only real hangup is using a wireless keyboard and mouse, but even that is pretty easy.

Even if you don't want to use keyboard and mouse, there is this:

It used to be console, due to better controllers, and ease of play (just put the game in and go).

But they changed all that.

PC now uses the same controllers.

Console now needs you to load the whole freaking game on the system, and there is WAY less space.

PC often also has mods you can use (at least easier) AND is often cheaper (Steam sales etc).

So at this point it's PC all the way unless it's much cheaper on Console.

Have not even looked into it, but since it doesn't come that way, and I already have a Laptop with a freakton of space (including plenty of SD space), why bother? At most it's even with the PC now.....and that is with having to buy additional space.

Because of the bigger picture. It's not going to make a difference for this one game, no, but computers make far better media centres than consoles (among other utility functions like social media), and in the long run, that PC is going to be able to play more games than that console would (by virtue of not needing to be replaced when generations tick over, as well as backwards compatibility).

Also, honestly I turn my computer on every day (almost first thing I do) to check for emails, this board, facebook etc. I rarely turn on my PS4 or especially my Wii U. I have not turned my Wii U on in over a month, and just turned my ps4 on like a week ago for the first time in about a month.

I have access to all my PC games every day without bothering with updates etc on my ps4, I don't have to load/delete games I'm not playing on my PC (due to tons of space), and my computer travels anywhere just fine, which I have to charge my stupid PS4 controllers if they are not plugged into the system (which needs to be near the TV).

So my computer is actually MORE mobile (not to mention as a laptop I can even play just on my extra wide large screen, if I don't want it plugged into my TV...although the distance it can be from the TV and still plugged in/set up allows me to play across the room with it anyway (not true even close for the ps4, unless I don't have the controller plugged in).

Ps4 is really only good for exclusives at this point, if it's on PC and PS4, I'm going for the PC version (again unless its far cheaper).

Another thing, my current laptop is probably better over all then the next generation of consoles will be (when they even come out). Forget about backwards compatibility etc, I already have a system that will play games probably for the next 10 years, and it was only about 900$ (on sale from best buy). Yeah, that is more then the current console and a decent way into the cost of the next one, but I'm done spending money on it for along time.

It also plays games with way better graphics then current consoles can, and since I play on a 4k TV (very large) that makes a big difference.

Getting PC controls set up for couch use does involve extra steps, given that you'll probably want some kind of lap desk for your keyboard and mouse, or you'll need to do some extra steps to control everything with a controller.

I agree wholeheartedly, but this topic is not about the bigger picture. It's talking about one given game and how you prefer to play it. Social media isn't part of it. Netflix isn't a part of it. It's about one game. It's asking, "when you get home from work/school/whatever responsibilities, and want to play a game, would you play said game on PC or console?" The topic also assumes that everything is identical, i.e. graphics, performance, etc.

And honestly, if you think about it, you could have a PC setup exactly the same as a console is setup. You can plug your computer into the TV, setup a controller, and play said game on the couch on your bigass TV. So, in reality, it could be construed as exactly the same thing, since you can play a PC exactly the same way like you would a console.

However, the way I am personally interpreting the context (and @Lobomoon can add his thoughts) is that, when TC says "PC" vs "Gaming console," he means a typical PC setup at a desk with a keyboard and mouse and computer monitor(s) and a desk chair, as opposed to a typical console setup with a controller and a TV and a couch.

Dikitain posted...
Convenience. Plus it is not an "extra" step, it is literally the same step you would need to do to hook up your console.

The way I interpreted the context of the topic is that everything is already set up. I could be wrong, but the topic is pretty open-ended.

I picture it like this - you can get home from work, and go upstairs to play said game on your computer, or go downstairs to play on your console. Again, I could be wrong, but that's just how I see it.

Dikitain posted...

All of mine is, but I'm saying that not everyone can. Maybe the bedroom is too small for a big TV. Maybe posters here are only 13 and not allowed to have TVs in their room.

Computers are actually better on the big high def TVs then consoles are. They can actually make more use out of them (ifyou have a decent graphics card).

I have a 64 inch smart 4k tv, I use it as my monitor for my computer, and the games I play from my comp look far better then the games I play from my ps4.

It's actually a laptop with an extra large screen, but it looks better on my tv then on the laptop screen (and of course is WAAAY larger).

The age of consoles being the only way to play on your TV is waaay over. In fact it's the reverse now, newer computers way outshine the consoles as far as graphics on good TVs.

Indeed it is not. I was just answering the broader question; in choosing how to play one specific game, the boarder merits of the setup aren't so relevant. That said,

I'd disagree there. It's going to depend on the game, but I fairly often end up alt-tabbing out of games to carry on conversations (text or voice) on Facebook, Skype, or Discord, or to browse GameFAQs (which is exactly what I'm doing right now as I wait for my DotA queue). Others have like to have something playing on Netflix while playing. That's something that's much less feasible on a console, and would definitely factor in to the decision.

I understand where you're coming from. I too like to have Netflix up. But the moment you switch out from the game, you're not playing the game. You're chatting. Gaming and chatting are two different entities.

While you wait for a DotA queue, are you really playing the game?

Either way, I think a majority of answers would be "it depends" if that was an option. There are obviously many exceptions, and the question is really too broad to be interpreted one way.

It's a necessary part of gameplay, that's going to be there regardless of which platform I'm playing on. I wouldn't call it playing, per se, but it definitely does need to be considered in making this comparison. The system that offers more alternative activities to do during that queue time is the better system to play the game on, all other factors being equal.

Yeah, I guess it all is built in to the "it depends" factor. For DotA, it might be something that offers multitasking, but for something more constant, that might change one's decision.

"It depends" wins this poll, even when it's not an option.
