Ryu and Terra Branford have challenged Dante to a fight! Location of the fight: Devil May Cry - Dante's base of operations. A small wooden abode occupied by little other than his desk and chair, decorative novelties on the walls, and a jukebox packed to the brim with Dante's favorite rockin' tunes. Attackers start at the entrance, with defenders by his desk, as seen in Devil May Cry 3.. Which side will win?

Guidelines

- The fight will occur in real-time (like an FMV sequence). Gameplay mechanics are less important than how the characters would function in a real-time environment.
- The members of each team are ideal teammates capable of a pre-selected plan of battle.
- "Broken" refers to a lot of things, including insta-death, auto-effects, a variety of status effects (e.g., Imp, Silence, Stop, *not* Poison), and revival. Unless stated otherwise, nobody has them, though do use your own discretion.
- There may be SPOILERS from all of the games the characters are from.

- Bold your votes (using bold HTML tags).
- You do not need to require justification for your vote, though the admins reserve the right to disqualify votes in the advent of obvious alt voting and other similar scenarios.
- Leaders cannot vote for their own teams (and players from the same pool may not vote as well), but they are free to argue their case.

Ryu is as seen in the endgame of Breath of Fire 3, equipped with the Royal Sword, Divine Helm, Laquer Shield, and Shaman's Ring. He has all of his abilities except Raise Dead and Resurrect, master skills, enemy skills, or accession.

Terra Branford is as she appears in Dissidia and at the end of FF6A, equipped with full Genji armour, Apocalypse, a Hero Ring, and a Gold Hairpin. She has all her natural magic, as well as those gained from Unicorn and Bahamut, including Raise. She does not, however, have Arise, Teleport, Break, Graviga, or Meltdown. She can enter Trance form at any time for 30 seconds (which also grants her access to EX mode), although it will go on cooldown for 2 minutes upon ending.

Dante is as he appears in Devil May Cry 4, though he does not have his canon regen. He may access Devil Trigger for up to 10 seconds every 5 minutes. He also has all of his weapons from Devil May Cry 3. He does not have access to Kalina Ann, Yamato, or any styles only seen in Devil May Cry 3.

Couldn't have rostered Lilith, I had to roster as close to 7 upkeep as possible and Archer couldn't be rostered because I need to roster Cloud as well, so my choices were Cloud + Nilin or Terra and a 3.

Just out of curiosity, how much respect would you give Trance Terra to nuke down Dante if she had better backup here? Like 2-3 other guys roughly at Ryu3's level.

Given she does not actually begin in Trance, I can't think of many situations (especially on this terrain) where he does not just her dead before she 'nukes' anyone. I think you'd need to pretty much flood Dante with cannon fodder and hope she doesn't die in the fracas.

Like say, Nemesis T-Type, Tidus, and a fightery Agnes? I think she at least dents him. Dunno if she kills him but it's some solid damage dealt.

Full disclosure: Terra with Trance I basically peg as a half-step below Kefka in magical power. At base she's kinda far away, but while in Trance Terra is very scary. She solos a boss the rest of the party could only barely touch and takes scratch damage in the process.

I also, it needs to be said, have very little respect for Dante's beef relative to his upkeep. Arwings can take a serious licking, Bayonetta headbutts skyscrapers, Archer survives countless impalements, but the Sparda Bros are pretty much garbage as far as beef goes. That ain't their strong suit given we've removed the thing they've always relied on for tanking. Dante gets staggered by a bullet to the dome (even if people will say he's playing it up), and his body reflexively activates Devil Trigger when Nero punches him repeatedly because he can't take the damage the kid is dishing. His DmC counterpart is a much much much MUCH better tank than him. There isn't a single showing of his that can really be painted as tanky without his healing factor. Sorry DC, I just have never bought Dante being beefy and never will until I see him tank without his Wolverine-ish gimmick active. :-/

Yes, you do. Wolverine is not really 'tanky' in the sense of being able to just no-sell attacks, but his healing factor is so high it doesn't matter if you shoot him and leave him for dead and temporarily blacked out. In five seconds he'll be up and killing you. Same for Dante, except I give him enough respect tankwise that I think he'd never end up hitting the ground from one bullet like Logan does.

(I also have solid durability respect for Sora! He has enough tankiness to take a lightsaber to the chest and survive just fine. That shit's very respectable, most melee mercs would be hard pressed to do better until you start inching into the 'really tanky' tier with guys like Armstrong and such. Dunno where the idea that I think Sora is squishy came from.)

I said 'relatively squishy' in comparison to the volume of firepower that I understood was being thrown out in a small room tbf - it wasn't that Sora couldn't tank one or two people but that BOTH sides were going to make the place explode, and I valued Revan's shields a lot because of how absurd their numbers were. That was 100% not an indictment on Sora and more me saying 'holy shit, everybody is gonna explode in two seconds flat except like, three dudes'

I don't have a vote but I think the terrain is the bigger problem than the backup. Like some sorta large fairly open terrain where Terra's flight actually matters.

Dante still wins but it gives me more pause than 3 more guys cause this is a really bad terrain for Terra here.
